Huskies win doubles point, four singles matches

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (6-8, 4-4 NSIC) earned a hard-fought victory in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday, defeating Minnesota Duluth, 5-2. The Huskies won the doubles point and had four wins in singles competition.

DOUBLES

St. Cloud State jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs after wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Freshman Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and junior Shanna Kinny (Litchfield, Minn.) earned a 6-4 win over Isabel Resler and Abby Johnson at the second position, while freshman Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) and senior Samantha Fitzpatrick (Rogers, Minn.) won 6-2 over Amanda Hanowski and Olivia Honsey.

SINGLES

In singles play, the Huskies received wins at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 spots to seal the victory. All four wins were straight-set victories, as Kinny beat Isabel Resler, 6-3, 6-2 while Brower won 6-3, 6-0 over Abby Johnson at the No. 3 and 4 positions. At No. 5, freshman Claudia Munoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) won 6-2, 6-2 over Laura Palmer while Fitzpatrick won 6-1, 6-4 over Olivia Honsey at No. 6.
