
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Selected for NCAA Tournament for First Time in Program History

No. 3-seeded Huskies will face NSIC foe No. 6 Bemidji State on Friday in Emporia, Kan.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – For the first time in program history, St. Cloud State Women's Soccer is headed to the NCAA Tournament, as the 2023 NCAA Division-II Women's Soccer Tournament field was announced on Monday. The Huskies (14-4-2, 10-2-2 NSIC), the No. 3 seed in the central region, draws a first-round matchup with No. 6 seed Bemidji State (12-3-6, 7-3-4 NSIC) on Friday, Nov. 17 at 10:00 a.m. CT in Emporia, Kan.
"It is absolutely awesome to have earned the opportunity to start the priceless third season and compete for a NCAA National Championship," said head coach Gretta Macdonald.
The 2023 Huskies continue to build upon what has become the best season in program history, as St. Cloud State captured its first-ever conference championship by winning the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Regular Season Championship after finishing the conference season with 32 points and a 10-2-2 record. The Huskies have also set program records for most wins in a season (14), most conference wins (10), longest unbeaten streak (nine) and most home wins (nine). The Huskies advanced to the NSIC Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in program history and for the first time since 2019, in addition to hosting the NSIC semifinals and championship round for the first time in program history. SCSU also recorded its best 10-game start in program history (7-2-1) and best five-game start (4-1-0) since 2000.
Friday's first round matchup will be the third this season between St. Cloud State and Bemidji State, as the Beavers have come away with 2-0 wins on Sept. 17 in Bemidji and on Nov. 10 in the NSIC semifinals. All-time, St. Cloud State is 6-12-3 against Bemidji State.
The NSIC, the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC) make up the 34-team NCAA Central Region. The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA region tournament. The two top-seeded teams in each region shall be offered the opportunity to host, provided minimum site selection criteria are met and a bid has been submitted. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the MIAA, GAC and NSIC postseason tournaments, with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The first/second round matches of the regional tournament will take place on campus on November 16-19 while third/quarterfinal rounds will be contested at campus sites on November 30-December 3. The 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Semifinal and Championship will take place on December 7 & 9 at Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, North Carolina; hosted by Wingate University.
