Junker Pitches Perfect Game, St. Cloud State Softball Splits Opening Day Matchups

Huskies shutout UMary 12-0, fall 3-1 to Bemidji State
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team split their matchups on the first day of the Kelly Laas Invitational Saturday afternoon in the Husky Dome. It was a historic first game as senior right-handed pitcher Trinity Junker pitched a flawless game in the Huskies 12-0 victory over UMary. Junker is the fifth player to pitch a perfect game in SCSU history and first perfect game since 2017.
In the Huskies next game, they fell victim to an early lead by Bemidji State as St. Cloud dropped 3-1 to the Beavers. SCSU scored one run, five hits, with zero errors while BSU scored three runs, three hits, with zero errors.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (12) VS. UMARY (0)
The Huskies wasted no time taking an early lead in the first inning as Jasmin Estrada blasted a hit through center field sending two runners across the plate to put St. Cloud on the board 2-0. A few batters later, Holly Weinberger smashed a hit for a triple sending home two RBIs. SCSU would lead 4-0 going into the second inning.
During the bottom of the third, Sydney Tree grounded out on a sacrifice bunt bringing an RBI while advancing a runner to third. Estrada singled to left field, sending a runner home to put the Huskies up 10-0. In the fourth, SCSU would add two more runs putting them up 12-0. UMary would be unable to make a play against the Huskies defense as the game would end with Junker pitching a perfect game.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (1) VS. BEMIDJI STATE (3)
Bemidji State got an early 2-0 lead over the Huskies on two hits in the first adding another run in the third. St. Cloud would stay scoreless until the bottom of the third when Raven Vanden Langenberg singled past the shortstop and brought home a runner. The Huskies couldn't get anything else going as the inning ended with two runners left on base. From there, SCSU was unable to make anything happen in the next four innings as they fell 3-1 to Bemidji State.

The Huskies are back in action tomorrow for day two of the Kelly Laas Invitational. St. Cloud will take on UMary at 10:00 a.m. and close the day with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Minnesota Duluth.
