St. Cloud State Softball Splits Day Two of Kelly Laas

Huskies down UMary 10-2, falls to UMD 11-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - For the second day in a row, the St. Cloud State softball team split their matchups on the final day of the Kelly Laas Invitational Sunday afternoon in the Husky Dome. The Huskies downed UMary 10-2 with nine hits and zero errors while falling to Minnesota Duluth 11-1 with four hits, and zero errors.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (10) VS UMARY (2)
Day two had a similar opening to the first with the Huskies putting up five points in the first inning. Sydney Trees singled up the middle advancing Raven Vanden Langenberg to second while Jamie Odlum went home for a 1-0 lead. Jasmin Estrada was next at bat with two on. The first pitch the left-handed batter saw, she sent a rocket over the fence for the Huskies first home run of the season bringing in two runners with her for St. Cloud to go up 4-0. St. Cloud added one more in the first before heading into the field.
SCSU would add two more runs in the second and one in the third to go up 9-0 over the Marauders. The Huskies were looking to close out the game on the top of the fifth but UMary managed to get by St. Cloud's defense for two runs. In the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded, Tenley Quesnell hit one past the pitcher sending Holly Weinberger for the walk-off run sealing a 10-2 victory for the Huskies.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (1) VS MINNESOTA DULUTH (11)
The Huskies struggled to respond to Minnesota Duluth's opening inning where the Bulldogs took an early 4-0 lead. SCSU added one run in the first going into the second down 4-1. During the third and fourth inning, UMD added four and three more runs going up 11-1. In the bottom of the fifth, the Huskies had runners on second and third with two outs looking to make a play to extend the game. However, SCSU stuck out, ending the game after five with St. Cloud dropping 11-1 to UMD.
UP NEXT
The Huskies off this next week before returning to action in the Washburn Invite in Topeka, Kansas. St. Cloud will face several different opponents from Feb. 24 through Feb. 26.
