St. Cloud State Softball Splits Day One of Washburn Invite

Huskies defeat UMC 3-1, fall to PSU 3-2
TOPEKA, Kans. - The St. Cloud State softball team opened their weekend with a split at the Washburn Invite on day one. The Huskies defeated Central Missouri Saturday morning and then fell against Pittsburg State during the evening.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (3) VS CENTRAL MISSOURI (1)
In the bottom of the second, Maggie Fitzgerald singled a shot to center field, sending Holly Weinberger past home plate to put the Huskies on the board 1-0. Jasmin Estrada led off the bottom of the fourth making a statement by blasting a home run over center field to put the Huskies up 2-0. In the fifth, the Huskies defense went to work not giving Central Missouri an opportunity to get on base. In the bottom of the fifth, Jamie Odlum stole second to put her in scoring position with Sydney Trees up to bat. Trees singled through the left sideline sending Odlum home for an RBI to put the Huskies up 3-1. UCM would add one run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Huskies would close the game 3-1.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (2) VS PITTSBURG STATE (3)
The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the first as Estrada batted in an RBI. St. Cloud would add another run in the second as Raven Vanden Langenberg hit a single to send Madison Spah home. Pittsburg State would add two runs in the second to tie it up. In the top of the seventh, with the bases loaded and two outs, the Huskies were looking to take the lead. However, they struck out ending the inning. PSU would score in the seventh to close the game with SCSU falling 3-2.
UP NEXT
The Huskies are back in action tomorrow for two games at the Washburn Invite. St. Cloud will face-off against Nebraska-Kearney at 9:30 a.m. and then face Rockhurst at 1:30 p.m. On Monday Feb. 27, the Huskies added a double-header to their schedule as they will make a stop to take on Emporia State. The double-header is slated for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
