Huskies defeat UNK 9-4 & Rockhurst 9-3, Trees & Weinberger with home runs

TOPEKA, Kans. - The St. Cloud State softball team closed the Washburn Invite with a Sunday sweep of Nebraska-Kearney and Rockhurst. The Huskies downed the Lopers 9-4 and the Hawks 9-3.

GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (9) VS NEBRASKA-KEARNEY (4)
The Huskies dominated the first inning as they scored five runs right off the bat. With the bases loaded, Nebraska-Kearney walked Jasmin Estrada giving St. Cloud their first run. Two batters later, the Huskies would score on an error as Sydney Trees and Estrada each crossed the plate to make it 3-0. SCSU would add two more runs before the inning changed. In the second, Maggie Fitzgerald singled to center field and brought in an RBI to put the Huskies up 6-0. In the bottom of the fifth, Nebraska-Kearney would add two runs. The Huskies added three more runs in the sixth putting them up 9-2. UNK added two in the second, but it was not enough as the Huskies came away with a 9-4 victory.

GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (9) VS ROCKHURST (3)
Similar to their first game, the Huskies went to work in the first inning adding four runs right outta the gate. With two runners in scoring position, Sydney Trees sent a home run over the fence to put the Huskies up 3-0. SCSU would add one more run to go up 4-0. Rockhurst would add a run in the first. During the fourth, Holly Weinberger batted in two RBIs putting the Huskies up 6-1. In the top of the sixth, with two on base, Weinberger smashed a homerun increasing SCSU's lead to 9-1. Rockhurst added two in the sixth, but the game would close with the Huskies winning 9-3.

UP NEXT
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 27 for a double-header against Emporia State. The first game is set for noon followed by the second game at 2:00 p.m. in Emporia, Kansas.
