Huskies drop 3-1 & 6-5 to Emporia State
EMPORIA, Kans. - The St. Cloud State softball team dropped both of their games against Emporia State Monday afternoon. The Huskies fell 3-1 in game one before dropping game two 6-5 despite making a late comeback to tie up the game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (1) VS EMPORIA STATE (3)
The Huskies lone run came right away in the first inning. Raven Vanden Langenberg was posted on third base when she took the opportunity to score on a passed ball. Emporia added two runs in the bottom of the first. The Huskies could just not get anything moving on offense as they struggled to get on base the rest of the day. Emporia added one more in the sixth for the Huskies to fall 3-1.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (5) VS EMPORIA STATE (6)
St. Cloud struggled to get anything going offensively as they were held scoreless until the fifth inning. Emporia would score two runs in the first and two more in the fourth going up 4-0 over SCSU. Going into the fifth and down 4-0, the Huskies would find a surge of momentum. A wild pitch by Emporia gave Vanden Langenberg an opportunity to put the Huskies on the board and advance Jamie Odlum to third. Sydney Trees would then smash a hit to left center sending Odlum home. With only one out, Lydia Krueger hit a sacrifice fly giving Trees the opportunity to score making it 4-3. With the bases loaded St. Cloud was looking to tie the ball game or take the lead but a hit by Tenley Quesnell resulted in a fielder's choice ending the inning. Emporia would go up 5-3 in the fifth.
During the sixth, Holly Weinberger stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. She smashed a hit down the left field line for a double bringing home two RBIs to tie the game at 5-5. Going into the seventh, St. Cloud was looking to jump ahead but was stalled on offense, unable to make a play. Emporia would get the better of the Huskies as they scored a run to end the game 6-5.
