St. Cloud State Softball Slated to Play Ten Games in Florida

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team is gearing up to spend a week down in the sunshine state as the Huskies will take part in the Springs Games. The Huskies are slated to play ten games from Mar. 3 through Mar. 9 while down in Florida.

ST. CLOUD STATE HUSKIES (5-5)
The Huskies enter the weekend 5-5. At the Washburn Invite last weekend, the Huskies defeated Central Missouri 3-1, Nebraska-Kearney 9-4, and Rockhurst 9-3 while falling 3-2 to Pittsburg State. In their double-header at Emporia State, SCSU fell 3-1 and 6-5 to the Hornets.

Sophomore infielder Maggie Fitzgerald was named the NSIC Player of the Week on Feb. 27. Fitzgerald is averaging .500 at bat owning a .556 OBP while slugging 625. Additionally, she has eight hits, five RBIs, and two doubles. Graduate catcher Sydney Trees is batting .481 owning a .600 OBP while slugging .704. Trees has 13 hits, ten RBIs, three doubles, and one home run this season. Senior pitcher Trinity Junker owns a 3-1 record. Junker has struck out 27 batters with an ERA of 1.96 in 23.0 innings pitched.

FINDLAY OILERS (9-2)
Findlay enters the weekend 9-2 overall. The Oilers are on an eight-game winning streak defeating Gannon 13-5 in their last matchup. Findlay is led by the talented duo of Avery Shepherd and Olivia Carlton. In 40 plate appearances, Shepherd is batting .474 with a .500 OBP while slugging .737. Additionally, she has 18 hits, seven RBIs, five doubles, and one triple and home run. Carlton is batting .424 with a .500 OBP while slugging .879 with 15 hits, 12 RBIs, three home runs, and two triples and doubles. In the circle, sophomore Emma Jones leads the Oilers owning a 4-0 record. Jones has struck out 13 batters with an ERA of 1.27 in 22.0 innings pitched.

Head coach Danielle Lowe is in her eight seasons with the Oilers owning a 179-130 overall record.

NO. 1 ROGERS STATE HILLCATS (12-1)
The 2022 reigning National Champions, Rogers State enters the weekend as the unanimous No. 1 team in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coaches Poll (NFCA). The Hillcats enter the Springs Games owning a 12-1 overall record. Sophomore infielder Bridgett Morales is the Hillcats leading front. Morales is batting .447 with a .522 OBP while slugging .737. She has 17 hits, 16 RBIs, five doubles, and two home runs. Junior right-handed pitcher Sara Llamas-Howell is 5-0 on the season striking out 24 batters with an ERA of 1.52 in 29.2 innings pitched.

Head coach Andrea Vaughan is in her eighth season as Rogers State's head coach owning a career record of 230-135-1 with the Hillcats.

GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS (2-2)
Glenville State enters the weekend 2-2 overall. The Pioneers opened the 2023 season taking down Clarion University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania while falling to Seton Hill University (PA) and Slippery Rock University. Senior outfielder Ashton Palmer is batting .300 owning a .417 OBP while slugging .400. Redshirt senior pitcher is 2-2 while striking out 20 batters with an ERA of 1.08 in 13.0 innings pitched.

Head coach Sara Scoone is in her second season with the Pioneers.

SAINT ANSELM HAWKS (5-1)
Saint Anselm enters the Springs Games 5-1 overall on the season. The Hawks opened the season 3-0 before dropping a game to Molly and then rebounding back in a double-header against Mercy (N.Y). Sophomore second base Ava Caputo is batting .450 owning a .500 OBP while slugging .750 for the Hawks. In 20 at-bats, Caputo has nine hits, seven RBIs, two triples and two doubles. Junior pitcher Haile Hicks is 3-0 on the season striking out 23 batters with an ERA of 1.00 in 21.0 innings pitched.

Head coach Jill Gagnon is in her tenth season as the helm of Saint Anselm's softball team owning a career record of 242-121-1.

NO. 8 GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS (5-0)
Grand Valley State enters the games as the No. 8 team in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll. The Lakers will head down to Florida after opening their season with a perfect 5-0 mark. Redshirt senior shortstop Lydia Goble is batting .600 owning a .647 OBP while slugging 1.000 in five games for the Lakers. Additionally, she has nine hits, three RBIs, and two triples and doubles. Redshirt senior catcher Morgan Wagner is batting .600 owning a .625 OBP while slugging .800 with ten RBIs, nine hits, and three doubles. Redshirt senior pitcher Hannah Beatus is 2-0 while striking out 22 batters, allowing zero earned runs in 15.2 innings pitched.

Head coach Dana Callihan is in her eighth season leading the Lakers owning a career record of 261-80.

SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS (4-2)
Saginaw Valley enters the games 4-2 overall. The Cardinals have won their last three games against Truman State, Minnesota Duluth, and Walsh. Senior shortstop Sarah Gersch is batting a .391 with an OBP of .423 while slugging .652. Additionally, Gersch has nine hits and RBIs with two triples and doubles. Junior pitcher Alyssa Muench is 3-0 striking out 23 batters with an ERA of .82 in 17.0 innings pitched.

Head coach Ryan Schalk is in his first year with the Cardinals after serving as SVSU's assistant coach in 2022.

CLARION GOLDEN EAGLES (3-3)
Clarion enters the weekend 3-3 overall. Senior outfielder Carissa Giordano is leading the Eagles so far this season batting .524 owning a .577 OBP while slugging .714. Additionally, Giordano has 11 hits, six RBIs, and four doubles. Senior outfielder Alyssa Stitt is batting .360 while slugging .760 with 11 RBIs, nine hits, two home runs, two doubles, and one triple. Senior pitcher Megan Anderson is 3-2 striking out seven with an ERA of 1.80 in 11.2 innings pitched.

Head coach Marissa Pullo is in her first year leading the Golden Eagles.

MILLERSVILLE MARAUDERS (6-2)
Millersville enters the Springs Games 6-2 overall. Freshman first base Allyson Black is batting a .538 owning a .571 OBP while slugging .923 for the Marauders. Additionally, Black has seven RBIs, seven hits, two doubles, and one home run. Senior infielder Gabi Turner is batting .381 with an OBP of .435 while slugging .857 with nine RBIs, eight hits, and three home runs. Junior pitcher Alex Schaefer is 3-1 while striking out 27 batters with a 1.02 ERA in 20.2 innings pitched.

The Marauders head coach Jen Probst is in her eighth season leading Millersville and 13th overall. Probst owns a career record of 288-255.

CEDARVILLE YELLOW JACKETS (3-5)
Cedarville enters the games 3-5 overall. Freshman outfielder Dana Bertke is leading with a .429 batting average owning a .538 OBP while slugging .524. Junior pitcher Casey Bertke is 2-1 while striking out 23 batters in 23.0 innings pitched.

Head coach Kelsey Chapman is in her first official year as the Yellow Jackets coach after serving as the interim head coach last season. Chapman led the Yellow Jackets to a 24-19 finish in 2022.

FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS (3-7)
Ferris State has opened its 2023 campaign 3-7. Freshman Abby Meyer is batting .333 owning an OBP of .333 while slugging .444 for the Bulldogs. Senior outfielder Kylie Winkels has ten hits and three RBIs on the season. Junior pitcher Aryn Gallacher is 2-2 while striking out 16 batters with an ERA of 1.93 in 32.2 innings pitched.

Head coach Jake Schumann is in his first season with the Bulldogs.
