St. Cloud State Tennis soars to 6-1 victory over Eagles

Huskies sweep weekend with two conference wins
Duluth, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (6-4, 2-3 NSIC) defeated Minnesota Crookston (7-4, 2-3 NSIC) 6-1 Sunday morning. The Huskies captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches and earned victories in five of the six singles matches. With the win, St. Cloud State has now won 17 straight matches against Minnesota Crookston which dates all the way back to 2007.

Doubles
St. Cloud State secured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) suffered a 4-6 defeat to Blaike Zander and Kavya Singh. Sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) won 6-1 in the No. 2 spot to even the score. The duo won their second straight match on the weekend and sit at 4-2 on the year. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) secured the doubles point for the Huskies with a 6-2 victory over Tasha Achermann and Michelle Swyter. St. Cloud State has a record of 6-1 on the year when they win the doubles point in the match.

Singles
In Singles play, the Huskies earned victories in five of the six matches with all of them coming in straight sets. In the No. 2 spot, Paz Aoki had a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 victory over Blaike Zander. With the win, Paz Aoki won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and secured her second win against Zander on the year. Muñoz Perez earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 and also won back-to-back matches for the first time this season. Senior Arisa Kashima (Saitama, Japan) cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win against Michelle Swyterin in the No. 4 spot. Brower just keeps winning as she recorded her 8th consecutive victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sarah Velasquez in the No. 5 spot. Brower's eight match winning streak is the longest winning streak since teammate Claudia Muñoz Perez recorded ten straight victories last season. Molitor took care of business in the No. 6 spot as she put the last point on the board for the Huskies with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ashley Chomyn. Molitor now has a record of 7-3 on the season.
