Huskies Shutout Mavericks, St. Cloud State Softball Advances to Second Day of NSIC Tournament

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team (32-18, 16-8 NSIC) opened up the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Tournament shutting out Minnesota State 4-0.
ST. CLOUD STATE (4) VS MINNESOTA STATE (0)
The Huskies shutout Minnesota State 4-0 off ten hits with zero errors. The first three innings opened up slow until the Huskies struck first in the fourth. Lydia Krueger RBI doubled to right field, sending Jamie Odlum across home plate for the 1-0 lead.
In the sixth with the bases loaded, Maggie Fitzgerald singled to right but an error by the Mavericks let her reach second while Jasmin Estrada made it to third. Odlum would get hit by a pitch sending her to first for the bases loaded. With three on, Krueger would get hit by a pitch advancing each runner as Estrada crossed home for a 2-0 lead.
Leading off the top of the seventh, Sydney Trees put the Huskies up another run as she sent her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence for a 4-0 Huskies lead. With two runners on, an RBI single out to center field by Odlum drove home Holly Weinberger for SCSU to go up 4-0. A quick three-and-out of the Mavericks closed the game advancing the Huskies to the second day of the tournament.
St. Cloud State's defense put up a tough wall to break through as they only gave up one hit with three Maverick runners making it on base through seven innings. Trinity Junker pitched the full seven innings striking out six batters while only allowing two walks and one hit, recording her sixth shutout of the season. Odlum went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Krueger went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and an extra base hit.

The Huskies will take on the top seeded Augustana Vikings tomorrow, May 4. Tomorrow's game is set for 12:00 p.m. CT on Field A at the RYFSA Softball Complex in Rochester, Minnesota.
