St. Cloud State Tennis Dominates in Home Opener, Beats CSB 6-1

Huskies win Jerry Anderson Legacy Match Trophy for 3rd Consecutive Season
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (2-2, 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) took down College of Saint Benedict (0-1, 0-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) 6-1 Friday evening in their home opener at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center. The Huskies captured the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. St. Cloud State won the first three singles matches to secure the victory. SCSU retained the Jerry Anderson Legacy Match Trophy for the third consecutive season and got back to .500 with their second straight victory.
DOUBLES
The Huskies were able to win the doubles point by taking down the Bennies in all three matches. In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) put the Huskies in prime position to clinch the point by taking down Brooke Beier and Kate Perbix 6-3. The junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) secured the point for the Huskies with a 6-3 victory of their own in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 1 spot, junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Lara-Maria Schaefer (Nuremberg, Germany) put the cherry on top with a 6-3 victory to sweep the doubles round. St. Cloud State swept the doubles round for the second consecutive match and have won the doubles point in three of their four matches, resulting in a 2-1 record.
SINGLES
In only need of three points to win the match, the Huskies made quick work by winning the first four matches to seal the victory. In the No. 5 spot, Schaefer put the first of three points on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Brooke Beier. Brower put the Huskies one step closer with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 spot as the Huskies grew their lead to 3-0. Muñoz Perez clinched the victory for St. Cloud State with a 6-3, 6-2 over Greta Nesbit in the No. 3 spot. The winning would not stop there for the Huskies as Grott captured a thrilling 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 victory in the No. 2 spot and senior Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) defeated Ryanna Steinhaus 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot to give St. Cloud State the 6-1 victory and second win of the season.

St. Cloud State will travel to Orlando, Florida for four matches starting on March 3. The Huskies will take on Thomas More on March 3, California University of Pennsylvania on March 5, Cornerstone on March 6, and Spring Arbor on March 7. During their Florida trip last season, the Huskies won three of their four matches including a win over California University of Pennsylvania, who they beat 4-3.
