St. Cloud State Tennis Cruises to 6-1 Victory over California University of Pennsylvania

Huskies win third consecutive match
Orlando, Fla.- St. Cloud State Tennis (3-2, 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) opened up their Florida trip by taking down California University of Pennsylvania (3-6, 0-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) 6-1 Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies would win two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and then would come out victorious in five of the six singles matches to secure their third consecutive victory.

DOUBLES
St. Cloud State captured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The Huskies would drop the first doubles match as junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Lara-Maria Schaefer (Nuremberg, Germany) were defeated 2-6 in the No. 1 position. In need of back-to-back victories, the junior duo of Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) picked up the first win as they beat Diletta Maria Mungo and Lilli Schreiber 6-2 in the No. 2 position. The clinching match would come down to senior Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland). The duo would take on Carmen Duran and Bega Gotor in the No. 3 position. Molitor and Grott would come out victorious as they won the match 6-3 to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

Moving into singles play, Muñoz Perez got the Huskies started with a clean 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot. Schaefer followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot as the Huskies took a 3-0 lead in the match. In the No. 4 spot, Grott clinched the match for St. Cloud State as she put the winning point on the board with a 7(7)-6(4), 6-3 victory over Maria Del Mar Ojeda. Freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) produced a come from behind 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 spot to put the fifth point on the board for the Huskies. Brower gave SCSU their final point as she defeated Lilli Schreiber 7(7) 6(4), 7-5 in the No. 3 spot as St. Cloud State came out victorious with a 6-1 win.
