St. Cloud State Tennis Falls 2-4 to Cornerstone University

Huskies have three-match winning streak snapped
Orlando, Fla.- St. Cloud State Tennis (3-3, 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) had their three-match winning streak snapped Wednesday evening as they fell 2-4 to Cornerstone University (3-4, 0-0 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference). The Huskies took a 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches but would come out victorious in only one of the six singles matches.
DOUBLES
SCSU had another strong start as they were able to secure the doubles point. In the No. 1 position, junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Lara-Maria Schaefer (Nuremberg, Germany) were defeated 3-6 Ximena Matamoros and Renata Castillo. Senior Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) got the Huskies on track as they defeated Jadyn Koenes and Daniela Fernandez 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. In need of a win to clinch the doubles point, the junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) gave the Huskies the point with a 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot. St. Cloud State has won the doubles point in five of their six matches but hold a 3-2 record when the point is secured.
SINGLES
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 lead, St. Cloud State would be defeated in straight sets in four of the six matches as they would lose the match 2-4. Muñoz Perez was the only Husky to capture a victory as she defeated Renata Castillo 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 4 spot, the match between Grott and Jadyn Koenes was deemed incomplete due to the weather. The match was in the third set with Grott trailing 3-4. Schaefer suffered her first singles loss of the season as she was defeated 6(5)-7(7), 3-6 by Hannah De La Vega Sanchez in the No. 5 spot. The freshman still holds a record of 5-1 on the season. In the No. 3 spot, Brower had her four-match winning streak snapped by Sarah Daza as she was defeated 5-7, 3-6. The junior now has a record of 4-2 in singles play.
