Muñoz Perez plays 100th career match

St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-8, 2-5 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) was swept Sunday afternoon by Augustana (15-3, 9-0 NSIC). The Vikings captured the doubles point after winning all three matches and then beat the Huskies in all six singles matches.

Doubles
Augustana took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches to clinch the point. In the No. 3 spot, the senior duo of Mamiko Yamaguchi (Tokyo, Japan) and Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) were taken down 6-0 by Senem Ocal and Smilte Baktye. The Vikings clinched the doubles point as Gabriela Jancikova and Simone Karaouza defeated junior Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) 6-2. The junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) battled in the No. 1 position, but were ultimately defeated 6-3.

Singles
Moving into singles play, the Vikings made quick work of the Huskies by winning the first five matches in straight sets. Muñoz Perez battled back-and-forth with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou in the No. 1 spot as the Spaniard took the first set by a score of 7-5. Hadjigeorgiou responded and won the second set 6-3 to force the deciding third set. The third set was competitive as the two players traded blows, but Hadjigeorgiou would go on to win 10-5 to complete the sweep for Augustana.

Century Mark
After playing in four matches this weekend, Claudia Muñoz Perez became the 65^th Husky to play in 100 career matches. Muñoz Perez has won 50 total matches in her tenure with the Huskies with 32 coming in singles and 18 in doubles. Her .650 winning percentage in singles play ranks just outside the top 20 on the all-time singles winning percentage in program history.
