Yamaguchi picks up first career victory
Nandam, N.D.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-9, 2-6 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) were defeated 6-1 by UMary (8-6, 7-2 NSIC) Saturday afternoon. The Marauders swept the Huskies in doubles and then continued their pristine play by winning five of the six singles matches to win the match 6-1.

Doubles
The Marauders took a 1-0 lead after defeating the Huskies in all three doubles matches. In the No.1 position, juniors Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) were defeated 6-1 by Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag. UMary clinched the point after Hala Awad and Maria Estinvil defeated sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) 6-2. Emily Needham and Luba Moyo completed the sweep as they captured a 6-4 victory over seniors Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and Mamiko Yamaguchi (Tokyo, Japan).

UMary made quick work of the Huskies after earning victories in the first five matches. Grott and Broadwell both won the first set in their respective matches but were both defeated in the third set. Yamaguchi gave the Huskies their only point of the day as she defeated Luba Moyo 7(8)-6(6), 6-3 in the No. 6 spot, but UMary would walk away with a 6-1 match victory.

Notables
After playing in two matches today against UMary, Maria Paz Aoki became the 66th Husky to play in 100 career matches and joins Claudia Muñoz Perez as the second Husky to do so this season. Paz Aoki has captured 34 victories in her career with 21 coming in doubles play.
