Huskies set to face Augustana in NSIC Tournament
Fargo, N.D.- St. Cloud State Tennis (4-10, 2-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) were defeated 4-3 by MSU Moorhead (7-8, 4-5 NSIC) Sunday afternoon. The Dragons captured the doubles point after winning two of the three matches and followed that up with three wins in singles play to secure the victory. SCSU finished the regular season in eighth place in the NSIC standings, qualifying for the NSIC Tournament, and will face off against Augustana.

MSUM took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 position, the junior duo of Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) were defeated 6-2. Sophomore Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) and freshman Brooklyn Broadwell (Thief River Falls, Minn.) tied up the match with a 6-4 victory in the No. 2 spot. In what was a back-and-forth match, seniors Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and Mamiko Yamaguchi (Tokyo, Japan) were defeated 7(8)-6(6) by Katryna Hansen and Claire Nemmers as the Dragons clinched the doubles point.

Moving into singles play, Broadwell tied up the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 position. Moorhead would respond with victories in the No. 3 and No. 5 spots as they retook a 3-1 lead. Muñoz Perez brought the Huskies within striking distance as she defeated Luzmary Diaz 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot as the score was set at 3-2. Paz Aoki battled in the No. 2 spot, but was ultimately defeated 6-3, 3-6, 1-6 by Shaelyn Johnson as the Dragons clinched the victory. Yamaguchi put the final point on the board for the Huskies as she earned a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 6 position as St. Cloud State was defeated 4-3.

St. Cloud State is set to play Augustana (15-4, 9-0 NSIC) in the NSIC Tournament on Friday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. The Tournament will take place in Sioux Falls, S.D.
