
St. Cloud State Softball Sweeps First Day in Illinois

Huskies take down UWP, 6-2 and shut out UIU, 4-0
ROSEMONT, Ill. – St. Cloud State Softball (9-3, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its first day of play at the Parkway Dome in Rosemont, Illinois. The Huskies took down UW-Parkside (Wis.) (2-1, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) 6-2 in their first game before shutting out Upper Iowa (3-9, 0-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference), 4-0, in the second game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 6, UW-PARKSIDE 2
SCSU got on the board first after a 2-RBI triple from sophomore outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.) in the home half of the second inning. Parkside evened the game at two in the next half inning.
The Huskies retook the lead for the final time when redshirt freshman utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) hit an RBI-single in the fourth. SCSU added an insurance run in the fifth after an RBI-single by sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and two more in the sixth after another RBI-single from Holmes and an RBI-single from sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.).

- Eickhoff stayed perfect on the year and picked up her team leading fourth win. She struck out a season-high six batters.
- Porter earned her fifth save the young season.
- Holmes posted her team-leading seventh multi-hit game of the season and third multi-RBI game.
- Weiss recorded 2+ hits in game for the sixth time this season and extended her hit streak to six games.
- Fitzgerald recorded multiple hits for the third time this season.
- Harms hit her first career triple and posted the first multi-RBI game of the season and second of her career.
- Holzhueter recorded her team-leading second triple of the season and extended her hit streak to five games.
- Collins walked once to extend her on-base streak to nine games.
- Junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) walked once, extending her on-base streak to seven games.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE 4, UPPER IOWA 0
The game was scoreless through the first four full innings before the Huskies finally broke through, scoring twice in the top of the fifth after a pinch-hit RBI-double by graduate infielder Evy Polsfuss (Apple Valley, Minn.) and an RBI-single by Holmes. SCSU doubled its lead in the top of the seventh inning after a 2-RBI triple from Holmes.
Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) tossed a complete game and earned the shutout win after allowing just four hits and issuing only one walk in 7.0 innings.

- SCSU tallied 8+ hits for the 10th time this season (sixth straight) and recorded 3+ doubles in a game for the third time. They also hit a triple for the second consecutive game for the first time this season.
- The Huskies have scored at least four runs in every game this season.
- SCSU struck out 6+ batters for the fourth time this season (second consecutive).
- Holmes recorded her team leading second 3+ hit game and eighth multi-hit game of the season. She also recorded 3+ RBI for the team leading third time this season. It was her fourth multi-RBI game of the season which also leads the team. Holmes' double was her fourth of the season and her triple the first of her career. She is the first Husky to surpass 20 hits this season and has a batting average of .583.
- Clark went the distance for the second consecutive game and is the only Husky to post a 7.0 inning complete game. She re-tied Eickhoff for the team lead in wins (four). Her six strikeouts were the second most in a game this season.
- Polsfuss extended her on-base streak to four games and hit her second double of the season.
- Dahmen hit her first career double.
- Beck scored 2+ runs for the second time this season.
- Weiss extended her hit streak to seven games.
- Holzhuter extended her hit streak to six games.
- Collins tallied a hit to push her on-base streak to 10 games. She is the first Husky this season to have a double-digit on-base streak.
