St. Cloud State Softball Extends Win Streak to Five After Sweeping Pair of Michigan Schools

Huskies beat Wayne State (Mich.), 5-2 before shutting out Grand Valley State, 5-0
ROSEMONT, Ill. – St. Cloud State Softball (11-3, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) extended its win streak to five games after sweeping its second day of play at the Parkway Dome in Rosemont, Illinois. The Huskies took down Wayne State (Mich.) (3-2, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), 5-2 in their first game before shutting out Grand Valley State (Mich.) Iowa (2-4, 0-0 GLIAC), 5-0, in their second game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 5, WAYNE STATE 2
The game was scoreless through the first three innings before the Warriors hit an RBI-double in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. In the top of the sixth inning WSU doubled its lead.
SCSU responded in a big way in the next half inning, scoring five runs. Sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) got the inning going with a leadoff solo home run. Junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) tied the game with an RBI-double and the Huskies added three more runs after scoring on an error and back-to-back sacrifice flies, giving them a 5-2 lead that they would hold on to.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Holmes hit an RBI-single. Holzhueter drove in a run in the second inning, doubling the Huskies lead. Graduate infielder Evy Polsfuss (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Holzhueter each drove in a run in the fourth inning and redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) drove in the Huskies fifth and final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) hurled a complete game, earning the shutout win after allowing just five hits over 7.0 innings. She struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.

- Porter earned her first win of the season and the 15th of her career.
- Holmes hit her team leading third home run of the season and extended her hit streak to four games. She has already tied her season record in home runs from last year.
- Fitzgerald hit her third double of the season.
- Roe and Beck each hit their first double as a Husky.
- Senior catcher/outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) extended her hit streak to seven games.
- Redshirt freshman utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) had her 10 game on-base streak snapped.

- Dahmen recorded her first career multi-hit game.
- Holzhueter notched her team-leading third triple of the season and extended her hitting streak to eight games. She posted her third multi-RBI game of the season which is tied for the second most on the team.
- Frechette scored two runs for the second time this season (second consecutive game).
- Beck stole her team-leading third base of the season.
- Weiss extended her hit streak to nine games, setting a new longest streak on the team this season.
- Holmes recorded a hit for the fifth consecutive game.
