
St. Cloud State Softball Splits Final Day in Illinois

Huskies fell to William Jewell, 6-3 (10 innings), defeated down Truman State, 16-3 (five innings)
GAME ONE: WILLIAM JEWELL 6, ST. CLOUD STATE 3 (10 INN.)
William Jewell opened the scoring in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead. The Huskies took their first lead of the game in the fifth after back-to-back RBI-doubles from sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.). The Cardinals hit a sacrifice fly in the next half inning to tie the game at two.
Neither team led after seven innings, so the game went into extra innings. WJC scored a run in the top of the ninth to take a 3-2 lead, but the Huskies answered with an RBI-double from redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) extending the game. William Jewell plated three in the tenth to take a 6-3 lead and the Huskies went three up, three down in the home half to end the game.

Truman State scored three first inning runs to take an early lead. Weiss hit a sacrifice fly in the Huskies half of the inning to cut the deficit to two.
SCSU erupted for 10 second inning runs on five hits. Beck hit an RBI-double, Collins, Holmes and Weiss hit RBI-singles, junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) hit a sacrifice fly and graduate infielder Evy Polsfuss (Apple Valley, Minn.) hit a pinch-hit grand slam.
The Huskies tacked on four more runs in the third and one more in the fourth to make the score 16-3. Of those final five runs, four of them were bases loaded walks and one was an RBI-single from Frechette.

- Holmes posted her team-leading third 3+ hit game of the season, ninth multi-hit game and fifth multi-RBI game. She extended her hitting streak to seven games and hit her team leading sixth double of the season.
- Holzhueter became the second Husky to score 3+ runs in a game this season and recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season. She extended her hitting streak to 10 games. She stole her third base of the season to tie for the team lead.
- Clark tossed her third straight complete won her fourth consecutive start. She is the only Husky with multiple complete games and earned her sixth win of the season, extending her team lead in wins. Clark has struck out 6+ batters in three games this season.
- Weiss extended her hitting streak to 11 games and posted her second multi-RBI game of the season.
- Fitzgerald extended her hitting streak to four games.
- Beck extended her hitting streak to four games and her on-base streak to five games.
- Roe recorded her first multi-RBI game as a Husky.
- Frechette posted her third multi-RBI game of the season.
