
St. Cloud State Softball Splits Opening Day at THE Spring Games

Huskies take down Franklin Pierce, 7-1, before falling to Saint Anselm, 6-5
CLERMONT, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (13-5, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its first day at THE Spring Games at Legends Way in Clermont. The Huskies beat Franklin Pierce (N.H.) (0-1, 0-0 Northeast-10 Conference), 7-1 in the first game, before falling to Saint Anselm (N.H.) (1-1, 0-0 NE10), 6-5 in the second game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 7, FRANKLIN PIERCE 1
The Huskies scored all seven runs in the first 1 1/3 innings. Junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) put SCSU on the board first with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, before senior catcher/outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) hit an RBI-single and sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) hit a two-RBI double and eventually scored on a wild pitch early in the second inning.
The Ravens scored their lone run with an RBI-double in the top of the third inning.
Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) tossed a complete game, earning the win after allowing just four hits over 7.0 innings. She struck out eight batters, issued only two walks did not allow an earned run.

She became the first Husky to reach 50 strikeouts this season and lowered her season ERA to 1.80, WHIP to 1.07 and opponents' batting average to .209.
· Roe posted her second multi-RBI game as a Husky (second straight game) and first 3+ RBI game.
· Holzhueter recorded a hit in the 11th straight game, tying the longest on the team this season. She posted her seventh multi-hit game of the season, which is tied for second on the team.
· Senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) extended her hitting streak to five games, marking a new season-best.
· Sophomore outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) extended her hitting streak to five games and her on-base streak to six games.
· Sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) had her team-leading 11 game hitting streak snapped, but extended her on-base streak to a team best 12 games after drawing a walk.
GAME TWO: SAINT ANSELM 6, ST. CLOUD STATE 5
The Huskies fell in an early 3-0 hole after allowing a run on a wild pitch and two more on an RBI-double in the bottom of the first inning. The Hawks extended their lead to 4-0 after a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
A Fitzgerald RBI-double in the third inning cut the SCSU deficit back to three. The Huskies brought themselves within one in the fifth inning after a two-run shot from Weiss. Saint Anselm earned a bases loaded walk in the next half inning to push its lead back to two runs.
In the top half of the seventh, Holmes hit a two-run bomb to tie the game at five, but in the home half, the Hawks loaded the bases with one out and scored the walk-off run after a wild pitch.
