
St. Cloud State Softball Erupts for 22 Runs in Saturday Sweep at THE Spring Games

Huskies outscore opponents 22-3 in pair of wins
CLERMONT, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (15-5, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its second day at THE Spring Games at Legends Way in Clermont. The Huskies beat West Virginia Wesleyan (2-7, 0-0 Mountain East Conference), 14-0 in six innings in the first game and Dominican (0-2, 0-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference), 8-3 in the second game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 14, WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN 0 (6 INN.)
An RBI-single from sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) put the Huskies up 1-0 in the first half inning. SCSU added four more runs on five hits in the third inning including an RBI-triple from Weiss, an RBI-single from senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and a sacrifice fly from redshirt freshman utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.).
Sophomore outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) recorded an RBI-double in the fifth before the Huskies plated eight runs on six hits in the sixth inning. Weiss hit a two-run home run, sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) hit an RBI-single, junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) was hit by a pitch to bring a run in and Collins also walked a runner in.
Senior right handed pitcher Emma Eickhoff (Becker, Minn.) hurled a complete game, earning the win after allowing just four hits over 5.0 innings. She struck out six batters, while not issuing a walk or allowing any runs.

GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE 8, DOMINICAN 3
SCSU continued its offensive momentum into the second game, scoring five first inning runs. Roe hit a three-RBI double, Collins hit an RBI-triple and freshman catcher Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) hit a sacrifice fly.
The Chargers cut into the Huskies lead, scoring twice in the top of the third and once more in the fourth. SCSU added three more runs in the home half, including a two-RBI double by Roe. Both teams accounted for just three hits in the final two and a half innings.
