St. Cloud State Tennis Drops Tight Match to Winona State, Falls 4-3

Huskies take doubles point for fifth straight match
Sartell, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (3-6, 0-3 NSIC) dropped a tight match Friday evening as they were defeated 4-3 against Winona State. SCSU captured the doubles point with a pair of wins, but could only take two of the four doubles matches.
Doubles
St. Cloud State got off to a strong start with as Claudia Muñoz Perez and Lara-Maria Schaefer captured a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot. Winona State responded with a 6-2 win of their own in the No. 1 spot. To decide the doubles point, Gibby Chapman and Brooklyn Broadwell came up big for the Huskies with a 6-4 win. This was the fifth consecutive match that St. Cloud State has won the doubles point.
Singles
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 lead, Johana Brower extended the lead with a clean 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot. The Warriors came up with their first point of the day in the No. 5 spot as the match was set at 2-1. In the No. 3 spot, Oriana Grott gave the Huskies their third point of the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Winona State would ultimately tie the match with two third set victories in the No. 1 and No. 4 spots as the score now tallied to 3-3. With the match on the line, Broadwell faced off against Nikita Agrawal in the No. 6 position. In what was a tight match, Agrawal would ultimately come away with a 6-5, 7-5 win as Winona State came away with a 4-3 victory.
