
St. Cloud State Softball Outscores Minnesota Crookston 16-3 in Doubleheader Sweep

Huskies take game one, 8-3, shut out Golden Eagles, 8-0 (5 inn.) in game two
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (24-8, 3-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its first midweek conference series on Wednesday against Minnesota Crookston (13-20, 1-5 NSIC). The Huskies won game one 8-3, before earning an 8-0 run-rule (5 inn.) win game in game two in the Husky Dome.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 8, MINNESOTA CROOKSTON 3
The Huskies opened the scoring in the second inning after sophomore outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) hit an RBI-single and senior catcher/outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) hit a 2-RBI single during the ensuing at bat.
SCSU extended its lead to five in the fourth after sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) each drove in a run. Each team scored once in the fifth inning and the Huskies added their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI-triple from Weiss and an RBI-fielder's choice from junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa). UMC added two runs in the top of the seventh.

· Holzhueter tallied her 13th multi-hit game of the season which ranks second on the team. She also posted her fourth multi-RBI game. She stole her eighth base of the season to move to a perfect 8-for-8 on the season.
· Weiss hit her second triple of the season which is tied for second most on the team.
· Frechette stole her eighth and ninth bases of the season, which leads the team. She extended her on-base streak to a season-best 10 games.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE 8, MINNESOTA CROOKSTON 0 (5 INN.)
SCSU erupted for seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Weiss opened the scoring with an RBI-single, Roe followed that up with an RBI-single of her own, redshirt freshman Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, Beck hit a 2-RBI double and in the next at-bat, Holzhueter hit a 2-RBI double of her own. Beck drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring home the Huskies eighth run, trigging a run-rule win.

· Weiss recorded her 12th multi-hit game of the season which ranks third on the team.
· Beck hit her fifth double of the season and posted her first multi-RBI game of the season and first 3+ RBI game of her career.
· Holzhueter hit her team-leading 11th double of the season and posted her fifth multi-RBI game of the season, which is tied for fourth on the team.
· Holmes hit her 10th double of the season which ranks second on the team.
· Honeycutt hit her first collegiate double and improved her career-best on-base streak to seven games.
· Frechette extended her on-base streak to a season-best 11 games
