Broadwell captures two victories

Duluth, Minn.- St. Cloud State Tennis (3-8, 0-5 NSIC) dropped their third straight match Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 5-2 against UMary. The Marauders won the doubles point after a pair of victories and then won four of the six singles matches.

Doubles
UMary came up with the first win of the day with a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 doubles position, but Oriana Grott and Brooklyn Broadwell captured their own 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. With each team holding a doubles win, the deciding point would come down to Johana Brower & Gibby Chapman against Maria Estinvil & Anna Sueflohn of UMary. The Marauders came up with a 6-3 victory as they clinched the doubles point.

Singles
Moving into singles play trailing 1-0, St. Cloud State would be defeated in the first three matches in straight sets at the No. 5, No. 1, and No. 3 spots as UMary secured the victory. Brower battled back and forth in the No. 2 spot, but was ultimately defeated 6-2, 2-6, 4-6. Lara-Maria Schaefer had her own battle in the No. 4 spot and came out victorious with a third set victory to give the Huskies their first point of the match. Broadwell tacked on her own third set victory in the No. 6 spot to set the final score at 5-2.

St. Cloud State is now 11-12 all-time against UMary.
Brooklyn Broadwell and Oriana Grott remained unbeaten as a doubles duo with their sixth win of the season. Broadwell has a team-high nine doubles wins stemming from a 9-2 record while Grott is a perfect 6-0.
Lara-Maria Schaefer won her seventh singles match of the season and moved to 7-4. This was Schaefer's first third set victory of the season.
Brooklyn Broadwell won her third singles match of the season and moves to 3-8. This was her first third set victory of the season and captured her first tiebreaker set victory.
