
St. Cloud State Softball Scores 21 Runs in Tuesday Sweep at THE Spring Games

Huskies take down Pitt.-Johnstown, 12-3 in six innings and California, 9-4
CLERMONT, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (18-6, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept its pair of games at THE Spring Games at Legends Way in Clermont on Tuesday. The Huskies beat Pitt.-Johnstown (Pa.) (1-4, 0-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), 12-3 in six innings in their first game and California (Pa.) (2-9, 0-0 PSAC), 9-4 in the second game.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 12, PITT.-JOHNSTOWN 3
The Huskies put four runs across in the first inning despite only recording one hit, after drawing to six walks and a wild pitch. UP-J responded with two runs in the home half of the first inning to make the game, 4-2.
SCSU extended its lead back to four after senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) hit a two-run home run in the top of the second. The Huskies added two more runs in the fifth after back-to-back RBI singles from sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.). SCSU plated its final four runs in the sixth with an RBI-double off the bat of Redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.), a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from senior utility Rainna Stangle (Sartell, Minn.) and a pinch hit RBI-single from sophomore outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.).

· Eickhoff remained perfect on the season, picking up her seventh win, which is tied for the most on the team. Her seven strikeouts were a single game best for this season.
· Holmes tallied her 12th multi-hit game of the season and sixth 3+ hit game. She scored 3+ runs for the third time this season.
· Frechette recorded her fourth multi-RBI game of the season and first 3+ RBI game – both marks are tied for second on the team.
· Roe scored 2+ runs for the fourth time this season.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE 9, CALIFORNIA 4
SCSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Vulcans responded with two runs of their own in the next half inning. SCSU regained the lead in the bottom of the second after an RBI-double from senior catcher/outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.) and extended its lead in the third after Roe hit a two-run shot.
California added a run in the fourth and the fifth while the Huskies scored one in the fourth (RBI-double from Fitzgerald) and its final three in the fifth with a three-run blast from Holmes to bring the game to its final score of 9-4.

· Weiss tallied her 11th multi-hit game of the season and seventh double, which are both tied for second most on the team. She has scored 2+ runs in seven games this season.
· Fitzgerald recorded her third multi-RBI game of the season (second straight). Her eight doubles are tied for the team lead this season.
· Roe recorded her fifth multi-RBI game of the season which ranks second on the team. She also hit her third home run of the season which is tied for second on the team.
· Clark reclaimed the team lead for wins, with eight.
