
St. Cloud State Softball Splits Thursday Pair at THE Spring Games

Huskies fall to Northwood, 4-3, defeat Grand Valley State, 10-2 in five innings
CLERMONT, Fla. – St. Cloud State Softball (19-7, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) split its pair of games on Thursday after a day off at THE Spring Games at Legends Way in Clermont. The Huskies dropped its tilt against Northwood (Mich.) (3-2, 0-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference), 4-3 in their first game and bounced back with a victory over Grand Valley State (Mich.) (8-10, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), 10-2 in the second game.
GAME ONE: NORTHWOOD 4, ST. CLOUD STATE 3
The Huskies put two on the board in the first inning after a pair of RBI-singles from senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.). Northwood cut the SCSU lead in half in the bottom half after a solo shot.
There were no runs and only one hit over the next two and a half innings, before the Timberwolves evened the game at two in the home half of the fourth. NU took a 3-2 lead the next inning after a sacrifice fly, but the Huskies responded with a solo home run from junior infielder/catcher Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa). The Timberwolves ended the game after hitting a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh.

Holmes opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the first with a solo home run. The Lakers took their first lead of the game in the third after an RBI-single and a sacrifice fly, putting themselves up 2-1. The Huskies evened the game in the third before exploding for eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, 10-2.

· Weiss hit her eighth double of the season which is tied for second on the team.
