St. Cloud State Softball Outscores Mustangs 10-1 in Saturday Sweep

Huskies shut out SMSU 5-0 in game one, take game two, 5-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (28-11, 7-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept Southwest Minnesota State (22-18, 4-10 NSIC) on Saturday in the Husky Dome in St. Cloud. The Huskies took the first game 5-0 and the second game, 5-1.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 5, SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 0
Sophomore outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.) put the Huskies up 1-0 in the bottom of the second when she hit her first career home run over the center field wall.
SCSU used small ball to plate its final four runs of the game in the home half of the fourth inning. Sophomore catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) started the scoring with an RBI-single through the right side of the infield while redshirt freshman utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.) and sophomore outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.) each reached on a fielder's choice RBI-bunt.
Junior right handed pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) tossed a complete game 7.0 inning shutout, allowing just four hits.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning after RBI-doubles from redshirt sophomore infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) and sophomore infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and an RBI-single from senior infielder Maggie Fitzgerald (Oak Lawn, Ill.). Weiss also drove in a run.
SMSU added its lone run in the top of the fourth with an RBI-double and the Huskies scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI-single from senior catcher/outfielder Reese Holzhueter (Shakopee, Minn.).

SCSU finishes its six-game homestand on Sunday against Concordia-St. Paul (16-21, 8-4 NSIC).
