Nick Novak Earns Second Team Academic All-American Honors

Novak becomes second wrestler in program history to become a multiple time Academic All-American
Austin, Texas- St. Cloud State Wrestling senior Nick Novak was honored with Academic All-American as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC) Wednesday morning. Novak was named to the Second Team All-American.

This is the second consecutive year that Novak has received the honor and joins Brett Velasquez (2017, 2018, 2019) as the only other wrestler in program history to be a multiple time Academic All-American.

Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District® recognition by current dues-paying CSC members and must meet high academic and athletic standards. Eligible nominees will receive Academic All-District recognition. The title Academic All-American is reserved for student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their sport and in the classroom. Only a select group of student-athletes advance from Academic All-District submission status to the Academic All-America ballot.

Novak held a 3.59 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. He earned CSC Academic All-District for the second time in his career a few weeks ago. He also was honored with NWCA Scholar All-American for the fourth consecutive season and NSIC All-Academic for the third tiem earlier in the year. On the mat, Novak tallied a 25-6 record wrestling at 165 where he totaled 11 bonus point victories. He captured seven ranked victories throughout the year and was ranked inside the top six at his weight class throughout the entire year. Novak would go on to earn First-Team All-NSIC for the third consecutive season, four-peat as Super Region V Champion, qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season, and earn All-American honors for the third time in his career after a fourth-place finish.
