Huskies Drop Conference Opener with 5-2 Loss to Bemidji State

Duluth, MN. – St. Cloud State Tennis (0-3, 0-1 NSIC) were defeated in their conference opener Saturday evening as they fell 5-2 to Bemidji State. The Huskies dropped the doubles point and then came away with two singles victories.
Doubles
Bemidji State would take the first doubles match in the No. 2 spot by score of 6-3. St. Cloud State would respond with a 6-3 win of their own in the No. 1 spot as Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil and Lara-Maria Schaefer came out victorious. The Beavers would again come away with a 6-3 win, this time in the No. 3 spot to take the point.
Singles
Moving into singles play, BSU opened with a win in the No. 6 spot. Sánchez Mendivil put the first point on the board for SCSU with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win in the No. 1 spot. The Beavers extended their lead to 3-1 following a straight set win in the No. 5 spot. Schaefer kept the Huskies alive with her own straight set win to set the score at 3-2. The remaining two matches would both go into a third set as Margarita Vinichenko and Gibby Chapman went back-and-forth against BSU in long matches. Bemidji State would ultimately come away with wins in both matches to finalize the score at 5-2.
