St. Cloud State Softball Splits First Day at Lewis Dome Invitational

Roosevelt hands Huskies first loss of 2026, SCSU bounces back in game two with win over Wis.-Parkside
ROSEMONT, Ill. – St. Cloud State Softball (5-1, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) had its perfect start to the 2026 season snapped in its first game of the Lewis Dome Invitational at The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont, Illinois on Thursday before winning its second game to earn a split. Roosevelt took the Huskies down in game one, 3-2, but SCSU beat Wis.-Parkside, 5-1 in game two.
GAME ONE: ROOSEVELT 3, ST. CLOUD STATE 2
After giving up a walk and a single earlier in the inning, SCSU conceded a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the third, giving the Lakers (2-2, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) a 3-0 lead.
In the home half of the inning, junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) hit back-to-back singles before senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) drove them both in with a two-RBI double to right field to bring the Huskies within one.
The Huskies left three runners stranded in the fourth and two more in the fifth and were unable to tie the game, falling 3-2.
TOP HUSKIES
Parkside (1-3, 0-0 GLIAC) hit an RBI-double in the first half inning of the game to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Huskies tied the game at one in the bottom of the second after junior outfielder Kori Needham (Milan, Ill.) hit a sacrifice fly to drive a run in for SCSU.
St. Cloud State plated what turned out to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth when Palmer drew a bases loaded walk, driving junior outfielder Hannah Harms (Bartlett, Ill.), who was pinch running, home. The Huskies added their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth with a two-RBI single from Weiss and an RBI-single from sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.).
Senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was excellent in the game, going the distance while only allowing one run on five hits. She struck out 10 batters and only walked two.

- Beck has reached base safely in all five games this season.
- Porter's eight strikeouts were the most of any pitcher in game this season.
- Kunz has three strikeouts this season over 1.0 combined inning.
- Holmes extended her hit/on-base streak to 17 games which dates back to last season. Her hit streak is the longest since former teammate Reese Holzhueter recorded a hit in 17 straight games last season.
- Weiss increased her on-base streak to 21 games and her hitting streak to seven games which both date back to last year. Her on-base streak is the longest for a Husky since Raven Vanden Langenberg (2019-23) reached base safely in 26 consecutive games in 2023.
- Freshman indfielder Rowan Jansen (St. Louis Park, Minn.) made her SCSU debut as a pinch runner.

She also recorded her second multi-RBI game of the season. She improved her on-base streak to 22 games and her hitting streak to eight games which both date back to last year. Her on-base streak is the longest for a Husky since Raven Vanden Langenberg (2019-23) reached base safely in 26 consecutive games in 2023.
- Palmer leads the team in average so far and is hitting .571 (8-for-14).
- Weckman is on a five-game hit/on-base streak.
- Roe is on a six-game on-base streak and five-game hit streak.
