St. Cloud State Softball Wins Pair in Second Day at Lewis Dome Invitational

Huskies beat Missouri S&T and Grand Valley State
ROSEMONT, Ill. – St. Cloud State Softball (7-1, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) recorded two wins on its second day at the Lewis Dome Invitational at The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont, Illinois on Friday. The Huskies beat Missouri S&T, 6-1 and Grand Valley State, 5-3.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE 6, MISSOURI S&T 1
Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) got the Huskies on the board in the first half inning with an RBI-triple to center field. SCSU added its final five runs in the top of the third when junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) hit an RBI-single and Honeycutt hit a grand slam. The Miners (10-5, 0-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) scored their lone run in the bottom of the third.
Honeycutt ended the game just a single short of the cycle and drove in five of the six SCSU runs. Freshman pitcher Alyssa Kunz (Lyons, Ill.) made her first career start, pitched her first career complete game and earned her first collegiate win.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU wasted no time getting out to an early lead, scoring for runs in the first half inning of the game. Roe hit an RBI-single, Honeycutt hit and RBI-single, a run scored on an error and Weckman hit a sacrifice fly.
The game went scoreless until GVSU (1-2, 0-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) plated its first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit in half. The Huskies responded by stretching its lead back to three after junior infielder Kennedy Palmer (Ankeny, Iowa) hit an RBI-double.
The Lakers added a late run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 5-3.

- Kunz earned her first collegiate win and completed her first complete game in her first-ever start.
- Honeycutt recorded her second 3+ hit game of the season and the fourth for the Huskies this season. She also hit the Huskies fifth triple and second home run of the season. She is the only Husky to record 4+ RBIs in a game this season and she has done it twice. It was her first career triple, and her two home runs this season are a career high.
- Beck hit her first double of the season and extended her on-base streak to seven games to start the season.
- Collins' double was her first hit of the season.
- Junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.) extended her on-base streak to 23 games and her hitting streak to nine games which both date back to last year. Her on-base streak is the longest for a Husky since Raven Vanden Langenberg (2019-23) reached base safely in 26 consecutive games in 2023.
- Senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) improved her on-base streak to seven games and her hit streak to six games.
- Redshirt freshman infielder Hannah Weckman (Lakeville, Minn.) had her five-game hit/on-base streak snapped.

- SCSU recorded 8+ hits for the sixth time this season and multiple doubles for the second game in a row. The Huskies have also drawn 6+ walks in five games this season.
- Clark remained perfect to start the season (4-0) and she surpassed 150 strikeouts as a Husky.
- Palmer recorded her team-leading fourth multi-hit game of the season and the first 2+ double game of the season for SCSU.
- Weiss posted her team-leading fourth multi-hit game of the season. She improved her on-base streak to 24 games and her hitting streak to 10 games which both date back to last year. Her on-base streak is the longest for a Husky since Raven Vanden Langenberg (2019-23) reached base safely in 26 consecutive games in 2023.
- Holmes leads the teams in walks this season with nine.
- Beck has reached base in all eight games this season.
- Porter picked up her first save of the season.
- Roe extended her on-base streak to eight games and her hit streak to seven games.
