St. Cloud State Tennis Resumes Conference Play with Trip to Sioux Falls

Huskies to play Sioux Falls and No. 16 Augustana
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Tennis (3-6, 1-3 NSIC) resume conference play this weekend as they travel to Sioux Falls to take on Sioux Falls on Friday, March 20 and then No. 16 Augustana on Saturday, March 21. Friday's match is set for 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's match will be played at 3:00 p.m.

Huskies Sweep Griffins with 7-0 Win in Florida Opener- March 2, 2026
With Seton Hill only having four players, SCSU would take a forfeit win in the No. 3 spot as Hannah Oing and Margarita Vinichenko earned the victory. To secure the doubles point, Lara-Maria Schaefer and Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil captured a clean 6-0 win in the No. 1 spot. To sweep doubles, Gibby Chapman and Brooklyn Broadwell won 6-3 in the No. 2 spot as St. Cloud State took a 1-0 lead.
Adding two forfeit singles wins, the Huskies would now lead 3-0. Schaefer clinched the win for SCSU with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 spot. Vinichenko and Broadwell each came away with straight set singles wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 spots as the lead grew to 6-0. In the No. 1 spot, Sánchez Mendivil would drop the first set 6-3 but responded with a 6-0 win in set two. To complete the sweep, she won the final set 10-4 to secure the 7-0 win for the Huskies.

Gustavus Adolphus would clinch the doubles point following a pair of 6-3 wins in the No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Lara-Maria Schaefer & Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil battled in the No. 1 spot and ultimately produced a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreaker win.
Moving to singles play, the Gusties came away with straight set wins in the No. 6 and No. 5 spots to go up 3-0. Brooklyn Broadwell gave the Huskies their first point of the match with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win in the No. 4 spot. GAC captured a win in the No. 3 spot as they ultimately clinched the match. Sánchez Mendivil came away with her second win of the day following a straight set win in the No. 1 spot. Margarita Vinichenko added the Huskies final point with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker straight set win to finalize the score at 4-3.

Cedarville would secure the doubles point after taking all three matches. The Huskies battled in all three matches, but fell just short with scores of 7-6, 7-5, and 6-4.
Moving to singles play, the Yellowjackets took a 3-0 lead with straight set wins in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots. Lara-Maria Schaefer put the first point on the board for the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot. Brooklyn Broadwell kept it rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 4 spot to set the score at 3-2. In the No. 5 spot, Gibby Chapman tied up the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win as St. Cloud State was energized with momentum. The match would come down to the No. 1 singles match where Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil took on Diana Ivanikhina. Sánchez Mendivil took the first set 6-3, but would fall 7-5 in the second set. In a back-and-forth battle where the Florida heat was turned up, the freshman came out victorious with a thrilling 13-11 superbreaker win in set three. The Huskies would rally back from a 3-0 deficit to come out victorious with a 4-3 win in their finale match in Florida.

Following the Huskies 2-1 Florida trip, Liliana Ruy Sánchez Mendivil was named NSIC Player of the Week. She tallied a 5-1 record playing in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles spot and clinched the win for St. Cloud State against Cedarville. This is the second time she has received the award this season.
Series History
Friday's match against Sioux Falls will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the teams with SCSU holding an 11-10 advantage. The Cougars have won three straight matches over the Huskies including last year's lone meeting.

St. Cloud State was defeated in all three doubles matches as Sioux Falls took the point. Lara-Maria Schaefer and Claudia Muñoz Perez were defeated 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. The Cougars would clinch the doubles point off a 6-2 win in the No. 1 position. Gibby Chapman and Brooklyn Broadwell battled in the No. 3 spot but would ultimately fall 7-5.
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 deficit, SCSU was defeated in five of the six singles matches with four of the five losses coming in straight sets. Muñoz Perez took on Chloe Siegfort in the No. 1 spot where she would take the set 6-4. Siegfort would respond with a tiebreaker win in set two and would ultimately take the third set in what was a competitive match. Oriana Grott dropped the first set of her match in the No. 3 spot but bounced back with a 6-4 win in set two to force the deciding third set. Grott battled back and forth with Sydney Osburn and would go on to win 11-9 for the lone Huskies win. Sioux Falls would come away with a 6-1 victory.

Augustana came away with the doubles point after earning victories in all three matches. In the No. 1 spot, Johana Brower and Maria Paz Aoki would be defeated 6-1 against Fernanda Sandoval and Nicole Dufour. The Vikings then clinched the point as Mia Garcia and Smilte Baktye defeated Brooklyn Broadwell and Gibby Chapman 6-2 in the No. 3 spot. That loss would snap Broadwell's 10 match doubles winning streak which was the second longest streak since 2007-2008. Augustana came up with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot to complete the sweep of the doubles point.
Moving into singles play with a 1-0 deficit, the Huskies would fall in all six matches with five of the six matches coming in straight sets.
