Huskies travel to Minnesota Crookston Saturday, MSU Moorhead Sunday in penultimate regular season weekend of play
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Softball (36-12, 18-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) will close out the road portion of its regular season schedule this week at Minnesota Crookston (14-33, 8-14 NSIC) and MSU Moorhead (8-37, 6-16 NSIC). The Huskies play the Golden Eagles at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Minnesota Crookston Softball Field in Crookston and the Dragons at noon and 2 p.m. at Nemzek Softball Field in Moorhead.

SERIES HISTORY
Minnesota Crookston
The Huskies are 37-2 all-time against Minnesota Crookston. SCSU is on a nine-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles and have won 18 of the last 19 matchups (outscoring UMC 148-33), including a sweep of the team's doubleheader in St. Cloud last season. The Huskies won game one, 8-3, before shutting out UMC 8-0 (5 innings) in game two.
MSU Moorhead
SCSU is 75-27 all-time against MSU Moorhead and are 7-3 in the last 10 matchups against the Dragons in which they have outscored MSUM 71-29. The Huskies split the 2025 series in St. Cloud, winning the first game 4-3 before dropping the second, 3-2.

The Huskies split its road series on Sunday with then-No. 24 and the top team in the NSIC, Winona State, dropping the first game 4-0, before shutting out the Warriors, 5-0 in game two. The win marked SCSU's first win against a ranked opponent since March 28, 2025 (snapping a six-game ranked winless streak) and its first ranked shutout since March 5, 2023. The Huskies then swept Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul, taking game one 12-4 (5 innings) before shutting out the Golden Bears 3-0 in game two.
Top Huskies
St. Cloud State Softball senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on April 21. It is her first career NSIC weekly honor.
Clark is the first Husky to earn a weekly conference honor this season and the first pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors since then-sophomore Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) did so on Feb. 20, 2024.
The Winneconne, Wisconsin native was 2-0 with two complete game shutouts, posting a 0.00 ERA and 0.57 WHIP over 14.0 innings. In her two starts, she allowed zero runs and just three hits (all singles), holding opponents to a mere .067 batting average. In her shutout of No. 24 Winona State on Sunday, she allowed just one hit and struck out three and, in her shutout outing against Minnesota State on Thursday, she struck out five batters and allowed only one hit.
SCSU went 3-1 during the week, earning its first sweep of Minnesota State since April 19, 2019 on Thursday after winning 11-9 (8 innings) and 3-0, and its first ranked win since March 28, 2025 (snapping a six-game ranked winless streak) and its first ranked shutout since March 5, 2023 when it beat No. 24 Winona State 5-0 in game two of the doubleheader.

St. Cloud State Softball was included in the first of three NCAA Division II Softball Regional Rankings, as announced by the organization on Wednesday. The Huskies were one of two NSIC teams ranked, joining Winona State in the first of three regional rankings. Again this year for NCAA Division II sports with regional rankings, schools are listed as under consideration in alphabetical order for the first ranking of the season.
St. Cloud State is looking to make its 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2019. The Huskies have eight remaining regular season games before postseason play begins. The NSIC Softball Tournament is set for May 6-9 at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; hosted by Augustana University. The top ten teams in the NSIC standings will participate in the single elimination tournament.
The 40-team NCAA Central Region is made up of teams from the NSIC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids are awarded to the tournament champions from each conference with the final five spots awarded on an at-large basis.
The NCAA softball selections will be announced on www.NCAA.com on Monday, May 11.
The championship provides for a field of 64 teams. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in a double elimination tournament. The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. The national champion will be determined in a best-of-three final series. The NCAA Championships are set for May 28 to June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

RECORD PERFORMANCES
Senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) tied the single-game program record for home runs, with two in the Huskies 11-9 extra-innings win over Minnesota State at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud on April 16. Her record-tying home run was the walk-off winner, her second walk-off hit of the season.
The Huskies also tied two single-game program records in their 20-7 inning win over Augustana on April 5 in Wayne, Nebraska.
Sophomore catcher/infielder Morgan Honeycutt (Rosemount, Minn.) tied the program record for home runs in a game with two and junior infielder Brooke Holmes tied the school record for walks in a game with five. She tied Megan Lehnen who drew 5 walks vs. Concordia-St. Paul on April 26, 2014.
Additionally, SCSU had one record breaking performance and one record tying performance in their 7-2 extra inning win over Northern State on March 29 in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) set a new program record for assists in a game with 11, surpassing the previous record of eight that was held jointly by Julie Engmark (vs. Southwest Minnesota State on April 14, 1982) and Olivia Graham (vs. Shippensburg [Pa.] on March 11, 2006).
SCSU hit a season high six doubles (all from different batters in the final 2.0 innings) which also tied the program record for the most doubles in a game. The Huskies also hit six doubles against Sioux Falls on April 6, 2013 (also six different batters) and Bemidji State on April 12, 2017.
JP'S SECOND NO-NO OF 2026
Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) tossed the ninth no-hitter in program history and second of her career (both of which have come this season) against Sioux Falls on April 12, striking out six batters in the process. It was the program's sixth-ever solo no-hitter and seventh of 7.0 innings. Porter became the second Husky to pitch multiple solo no-hitters.
SCSU NO-HITTERS
Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) threw just the fifth perfect game in the history of St. Cloud State Softball against Bridgeport (Pa.) on Feb. 28. She was perfect over 7.0 innings, striking seven batters out. Porter's perfect game was program's first since 2023 and just the third of 7.0 innings by a pitcher with the others being a 5.0 inning outing and a combined 7.0 inning performance.
SCSU PERFECT GAMES
St. Cloud State Softball was selected to finish fifth in the 2026 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Jan. 23. Additionally, senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) and junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) were named the preseason players to watch by the NSIC.
Head Coach Mitch Roberts enters his fifth season at the helm of the Huskies Softball in 2026. He has record of 141-79 (.641) and led last year's team to a 41-15 overall record, including a 20-7 record in NSIC play, to finish fourth in the standings. The Huskies fell in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals to No. 5 seed Minnesota Duluth. It was the eighth time in program history and first time since 2019 that SCSU reached the 40-win mark.
Clark, the reigning and SCSU's first ever NSIC Newcomer of the Year, enters her second and final season with the Huskies after an impressive junior campaign. In her first season of NCAA play last year, she went 18-7 with one save over 29 appearances/28 starts (157.1 innings), logging 13 complete games. Clark posted a 2.49 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP with four total shutouts (two solo/two combined), while holding batters to a .239 batting average. She posted 132 strikeouts to just 39 walks and ranked among the Northern Sun's best in starts (3rd), shutouts (6th), innings pitched (6th), strikeouts (7th), walks/7 innings (7th, 1.74), WHIP (8th), K/BB ratio (8th, 3.38), complete games (8th) and hits allowed/7 innings (10th, 6.32). Clark was also a Second Team All-NSIC selection.
Holmes, a reigning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-American, looks to build off her breakout sophomore season in which she led SCSU in in batting average (.414), slugging percentage (.688), runs (52), home runs (12), RBI (51), total bases (128) and times hit by pitch (four). She also ranked second in on-base percentage (.471), hits (77) and third in doubles (13). She carries both hitting and on-base streaks of 12 games into the 2026 season.
The Savage, Minnesota native became the sixth Husky (first since 2008) and first second baseman to be named an NFCA All-American. Prior to being named an All-American, she earned the first all-region accolades of her career after being named to the All-Central Region Second Team by the NFCA and her first all-conference recognition after earning a Second Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) selection. Additionally, Holmes was twice named NSIC Player of the Week by the league office (Feb. 24 | April 28). They were her first two weekly conference honors of her career, and she was the only Husky to earn weekly honors throughout the season. After an incredible non-conference season, she was named to the 2025 NFCA Division II Player of the Year watchlist.
Holmes also excelled in the classroom, becoming just the sixth student-athlete in program history and one of two student-athletes from the NSIC in 2025 to earn Academic All-America® honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) after being named to its second team for softball. She was also named a CSC Academic All-District® honoree, an Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete, an NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence member and an NSIC All-Academic recipient each for the first time in her career.
SCSU returns 15 players from last season's roster – including three seniors, one redshirt junior, five juniors, one redshirt sophomore, four sophomores and one redshirt freshman. The Huskies brought in seven newcomers including two junior transfers and four freshmen.
Key returners include senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Seattle, Wash.), who was a 2025 Second Team All-NSIC Selection and regular starters junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.), redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.), redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.), senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.).
For the seventh consecutive season and eighth time overall, Augustana was chosen as the favorite in the NSIC Preseason Softball Coaches' Poll. The Vikings, the five-time defending regular season champions, amassed 221 points 12 of the 16 first place votes (coaches cannot rank their own team). Winona State was second with 202 points and four first place votes, followed by Minnesota State (197 points), Minnesota Duluth (183 points) and the Huskies (175 points).
The preseason coaches' poll is based off each coach ranking each team with the top team receiving 15 points, second 14, third 13, etc.
The 2026 NSIC Softball season gets underway with non-conference play on January 31, while the 28-game NSIC schedule is set to begin on Saturday, March 21.
The 2026 NSIC Softball Tournament will have a 10-team single elimination format over four days played at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 6-9, 2026; hosted by Augustana University. The tournament will be streamed on the NSIC Network, with tournament passes or single game access available for purchase.

Additionally, SCSU had one record breaking performance and one record tying performance in their 7-2 extra inning win over Northern State on March 29 in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.) set a new program record for assists in a game with 11, surpassing the previous record of eight that was held jointly by Julie Engmark (vs. Southwest Minnesota State on April 14, 1982) and Olivia Graham (vs. Shippensburg [Pa.] on March 11, 2006).
SCSU hit a season high six doubles (all from different batters in the final 2.0 innings) which also tied the program record for the most doubles in a game. The Huskies also hit six doubles against Sioux Falls on April 6, 2013 (also six different batters) and Bemidji State on April 12, 2017.
JP'S SECOND NO-NO OF 2026
Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) tossed the ninth no-hitter in program history and second of her career (both of which have come this season) against Sioux Falls on April 12, striking out six batters in the process. It was the program's sixth-ever solo no-hitter and seventh of 7.0 innings. Porter became the second Husky to pitch multiple solo no-hitters.

Senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Kent, Wash.) threw just the fifth perfect game in the history of St. Cloud State Softball against Bridgeport (Pa.) on Feb. 28. She was perfect over 7.0 innings, striking seven batters out. Porter's perfect game was program's first since 2023 and just the third of 7.0 innings by a pitcher with the others being a 5.0 inning outing and a combined 7.0 inning performance.

St. Cloud State Softball was selected to finish fifth in the 2026 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Jan. 23. Additionally, senior pitcher Macey Clark (Winneconne, Wis.) and junior infielder Brooke Holmes (Savage, Minn.) were named the preseason players to watch by the NSIC.
Head Coach Mitch Roberts enters his fifth season at the helm of the Huskies Softball in 2026. He has record of 141-79 (.641) and led last year's team to a 41-15 overall record, including a 20-7 record in NSIC play, to finish fourth in the standings. The Huskies fell in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals to No. 5 seed Minnesota Duluth. It was the eighth time in program history and first time since 2019 that SCSU reached the 40-win mark.
Clark, the reigning and SCSU's first ever NSIC Newcomer of the Year, enters her second and final season with the Huskies after an impressive junior campaign. In her first season of NCAA play last year, she went 18-7 with one save over 29 appearances/28 starts (157.1 innings), logging 13 complete games. Clark posted a 2.49 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP with four total shutouts (two solo/two combined), while holding batters to a .239 batting average. She posted 132 strikeouts to just 39 walks and ranked among the Northern Sun's best in starts (3rd), shutouts (6th), innings pitched (6th), strikeouts (7th), walks/7 innings (7th, 1.74), WHIP (8th), K/BB ratio (8th, 3.38), complete games (8th) and hits allowed/7 innings (10th, 6.32). Clark was also a Second Team All-NSIC selection.
Holmes, a reigning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Second Team All-American, looks to build off her breakout sophomore season in which she led SCSU in in batting average (.414), slugging percentage (.688), runs (52), home runs (12), RBI (51), total bases (128) and times hit by pitch (four). She also ranked second in on-base percentage (.471), hits (77) and third in doubles (13). She carries both hitting and on-base streaks of 12 games into the 2026 season.
The Savage, Minnesota native became the sixth Husky (first since 2008) and first second baseman to be named an NFCA All-American. Prior to being named an All-American, she earned the first all-region accolades of her career after being named to the All-Central Region Second Team by the NFCA and her first all-conference recognition after earning a Second Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) selection. Additionally, Holmes was twice named NSIC Player of the Week by the league office (Feb. 24 | April 28). They were her first two weekly conference honors of her career, and she was the only Husky to earn weekly honors throughout the season. After an incredible non-conference season, she was named to the 2025 NFCA Division II Player of the Year watchlist.
Holmes also excelled in the classroom, becoming just the sixth student-athlete in program history and one of two student-athletes from the NSIC in 2025 to earn Academic All-America® honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) after being named to its second team for softball. She was also named a CSC Academic All-District® honoree, an Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete, an NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence member and an NSIC All-Academic recipient each for the first time in her career.
SCSU returns 15 players from last season's roster – including three seniors, one redshirt junior, five juniors, one redshirt sophomore, four sophomores and one redshirt freshman. The Huskies brought in seven newcomers including two junior transfers and four freshmen.
Key returners include senior pitcher Justyce Porter (Seattle, Wash.), who was a 2025 Second Team All-NSIC Selection and regular starters junior outfielder Bree Beck (Lakeville, Minn.), redshirt sophomore utility Kaylee Collins (Lakeville, Minn.), redshirt junior infielder Grace Frechette (Forest Lake, Minn.), senior infielder Sydney Roe (Davenport, Iowa) and junior catcher/infielder Bethany Weiss (Forest Lake, Minn.).
For the seventh consecutive season and eighth time overall, Augustana was chosen as the favorite in the NSIC Preseason Softball Coaches' Poll. The Vikings, the five-time defending regular season champions, amassed 221 points 12 of the 16 first place votes (coaches cannot rank their own team). Winona State was second with 202 points and four first place votes, followed by Minnesota State (197 points), Minnesota Duluth (183 points) and the Huskies (175 points).
The preseason coaches' poll is based off each coach ranking each team with the top team receiving 15 points, second 14, third 13, etc.
The 2026 NSIC Softball season gets underway with non-conference play on January 31, while the 28-game NSIC schedule is set to begin on Saturday, March 21.
The 2026 NSIC Softball Tournament will have a 10-team single elimination format over four days played at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 6-9, 2026; hosted by Augustana University. The tournament will be streamed on the NSIC Network, with tournament passes or single game access available for purchase.
