Kawalawu Falls in 60m Dash Preliminaries at NCAA Track & Field Championships

Birmingham, Ala. - St. Cloud State University Track & Field's George Kawalawu competed in his second NCAA Division II National Championships Friday.

Kawalawu qualified for nationals in the 60m dash, which he was seeded 16th with a time of 6.83. He qualified with the time at the Snowshoe Open on Feb. 15 hosted by the University of Minnesota.

With the top eight advancing to the finals Kawalawu was ready to run his best race of the indoor season. Unfortunately he concluded the 2013 Indoor season with a disheartening finish in the 60m dash preliminaries Friday with an injury towards then end of the race. Kawalawu ran in the third and final heat of the 60m dash starting out great in lane two finishing sixth in his heat and placing 17th overall with a time of 6.92.

"George had the best first 35-40m of the year and got out of his blocks great," said head coach Eric Hanenberger.

The Huskies will kick off their outdoor season on April 6 at the ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan.
