SCSU Baseball Sweeps Missouri S&T in Four Games

Jacksonville, Ark. – St. Cloud State baseball traveled to Jacksonville for a four-game series against Missouri S&T Friday and Saturday where the Huskies started their win streak in game one with a 9-6 victory.
Missouri S&T came out of the first inning with a 1-0 lead over the Huskies in game one on Friday but St. Cloud would come back scoring one run in the second and one in the third for a 2-1 lead.
Sam Boisner would get the second inning going for the Huskies with a single to center field and then would move to second as Kyle Lieser was hit by a pitch. Brandon Arnold would tie the game up 1-1 with a single to center field scoring Boisner.
SCSU took the lead in the third as Garrett Fischer led off with a single and then stole second to advance to third off a throwing error by the Miners' catcher. Fischer scored on a ground out to the shortstop making it a 2-1 game. The Huskies ended the inning with two hits on one error and left one runner on base.
The Miners tied the game up 2-2 scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth inning off a single to center field with runners on second and third.
Both teams put up four runs in the fifth inning for a 6-6 game. A couple singles for the Huskies scored two runs each for their four runs in the inning. It was not until the top of the seventh inning where the Huskies would pull away to win the game 9-6. A double by Eric Loxtercamp scored the game winning run, while Garrett Fischer put up a single scoring two for the 9-6 victory.
Pitching three innings in game one and pitcher of record was Reese Gregory, throwing four strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Starting the game and pitching four innings was Corey Fitzgerald. Gregory moves his season record to a perfect 2-0.
In game two on the weekend the Huskies shutout the Miners by a final score of 5-0. Saturday the Huskies and Missouri S&T played another doubleheader series as SCSU went on to earn the sweep winning 9-1 and 15-5.
St. Cloud State moves their record to 6-2 on the season and will be back in action March 8-15 as they travel to Tucson, Arizona where they will take on California State University, San Bernardino, Northern State, Bemidji State, Minot State and Jamestown College (N.D.) all for non-conference games.
