SCSU Softball Wins Two: Defeats Pittsburg State 5-3 and Missouri Southern 8-5

St. Joseph, MO – The St. Cloud State University softball team competed in their final day at the Missouri Western Invite today in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Huskies finished the weekend with a sweep over Pittsburg State (5-3) and Missouri Southern (8-5).
The Huskies improve to 6-11 overall and finish the Missouri Western Invite with a 2-4 record. The Huskies have wrapped up non-conference games and will begin action in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) on March 28 as they take on Winona State at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Husky Dome.
SCSU vs. Pittsburg State:
St. Cloud State was able to get their offense going in their first game today against Pittsburg State as they combined for five runs on 12 hits. The Gorillas posted three runs on just five hits.
Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) started on the mound for the Huskies. Franks pitched seven complete innings, giving up five hits and striking out eight. Franks recorded the win for the Huskies, improving her record on the mound this season to 2-5.
Tricia DeBoer (Blooming Prairie) led the Huskies offensively, going three for four at the plate and driving in one run.
Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove), Megan Lehnen (Burnsville) and Megan Larkin (Winchester, Oregon) each collected two hits. Breana Canova had a team-high two RBI's after singling in the bottom of the fourth to score two.
SCSU vs. Missouri Southern:
The Huskies combined for eight runs off of ten hits in their 8-5 win over Missouri Southern. They scored all eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Abby Bunnell, Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.), and Alyssa Coletto (Aurora, Ill.) each recorded two hits in the win. Jessica Goerger (Mankato) and Coletto both drove in two runs.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) started on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up three runs and three hits before being relieved by Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.). Merritt pitched the final 2.1 innings, gave up just one hit and two runs to earn the win for the Huskies.
