Softball Falls to Sioux Falls 6-8 and 1-7 in Monday NSIC Action

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The St. Cloud State University softball team traveled to Sioux Falls, SD to take on the University of Sioux Falls in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader this afternoon.
The Huskies fell to the Cougars 6-8 in game one and dropped game two, 1-7.
St. Cloud State now holds a 7-17-1 overall record and is 1-6-1 in the NSIC. Sioux Falls moves to 21-7 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
Game One Recap:
The University of Sioux Falls got on the board early in the bottom of the first after putting together two hits combined with three St. Cloud State errors to take a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies battled back with a strong offensive fourth inning, spurred by a two RBI single from senior infielder Stephanie Roan (St. Charles, Ill.). St. Cloud State scored three runs off of two hits and one Cougar error in the inning.
The Huskies kept their offense going, scoring successive runs in both the fifth and sixth innings – gaining one run in the fifth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Megan Lehnen (Burnsville) and two runs in the sixth off a two-RBI base hit by Abby Bunnell (Maple Grove).
The Huskies couldn't contain the Cougars offense, allowing them to score two runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings.
St. Cloud State put together six runs on eight hits in their 6-8 loss to the Cougars. Taylor Thomas (Fontana, Calif.), Abby Bunnell, and Stephanie Roan each finished with two hits.
Senna Francesconi (Schomberg, Ontario) pitched three complete innings for the Huskies, receiving the loss to hold a 4-5 record on the season. Kendra Merritt (Fort Lupton, Colo.) relieved Francesconi to pitch three complete, giving up four hits, two runs and striking out three.
Game Two Recap:
The Huskies couldn't get their hits to come at the right time in game two, putting just one run on the board in the top of the fifth on an RBI single to left by Megan Lehnen to score Alyssa Coletto.
The Huskies fell 1-7 as the Cougars displayed two, three-run innings. St. Cloud State posted one run on six hits. The Cougars finished with seven runs off of eight hits in game two.
Kelly Franks (Stevens Point, Wis.) started on the mound, pitching four complete innings to give up seven hits, seven runs and striking out six. Rebecca Harps (Yucaipa, Calif.) pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit, no runs and striking out three. Franks was credited with the loss.
The Huskies will return to action tomorrow as they host the University of Minnesota Crookston at the Husky Dome. Games will take place at noon and 2 p.m. Crookston is the designated home team in the series. Live stats will be available under Fan Zone on scsuhuskies.com.
