The St. Cloud State Track and Field Team Enjoy Multiple Wins at the 2015 Holst Invitational

The St. Cloud State track and field team travelled to St. Paul to compete in the 2015 Holst Invitational hosted by Concordia University.Â
The Huskies came out of the meet with strong performances resulting in top finishes for many of the athletes representing St. Cloud.Â
Chris Carson finished in second place in the 1500 meter run with a final time of 4:06:55, which was just two seconds behind the event winner.Â
After a third place preliminary finish in the 100 meter dash, JT Butler improved his sprint, finding himself in second place with a time of 10.89 seconds.Â
Myles Witcher found himself on the podium in the 110 meter hurdles, as he took third place with a 16.45 second finish.Â
Sebastian Sowada added to the Huskies medal count when he took third place in the 800 meter run, running it in just 2:00.03. Teammate, Paul Greenwood followed close behind with a fifth place finish, just one second behind Witcher.Â
In the field, Ryan Johnson took third place in the hammer throw with a distance of 53.33 meters.Â
Johnson also finished second in discuss throw and was joined by teammate Quinn Anderson, who took first place in the event. Johnson has already won NSIC outdoor field athlete of the week this season and continues his success in the field.Â
Marcus Welk continues his successful outdoor season soaring to second place in pole vault with a final jump of 4.50 meters.Â
Keyshawn Davis and Jordan Yira continued to make St. Cloud proud as they took first and second in the long jump competition with jumps of 6.93 and 6.35. Yira added another second place finish to his collection in the triple jump event, with a finishing jump of 12.60 meters.Â
Yet another St. Cloud State athlete was awarded a first place finish at the Holst Invitational. Sam Sunstrom's strong run in the 5000 meter run was awarded the gold medal after finishing a whole minute in front of her fellow competitors with a time of 18:21.36. Following behind in the event was Zia Matti, who joined Sunstrom on the podium and enjoyed third place with a time of 19:49.34.
Becky Schmidt continued the Huskies success with two first place finishes in the meet. She took the 100 meter dash, with a time of 12.07 seconds and long jump, with a jump of 5.46 meters. She also took 4th place in the 200 meter sprint. Schmidt adds these wins to her multiple first place finishes of the 2015 outdoor season.
Patience Yalarti also enjoyed success in the 200 meter sprint, running into second place with a time of 25.91 seconds. Yalarti followed in behind Schmidt in long jump with her second second place finish on the day with a jump of 5.43 meters. She has also had a decorated outdoor season and had a very successful indoor season.Â
Taking to the field for the women was Heather Clankie, who jumped her way into third place with 40.96 meter jump
The Huskies hope to continue success as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the 2015 Drake Relays on April 23-25.
