Huskies qualify three for 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Patience Yalartai and Ryan Johnson earn All-Central Region honor
Indianapolis -- Sophomore Patience Yalartai (Bloomington, Minn.), junior Ryan Johnson (Amery, Wis.) and junior Rafael Saez (Milwaukee, Wis.) will represent St. Cloud State at the 2015 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich. The Huskies were among the field of participants announced by the NCAA late Tuesday afternoon. Grand Valley State University will serve as the host school for the championships.

"I am very excited for the group that will be competing at the NCAA's," said head coach Eric Hanenberger. "It will be the first outdoor NCAA championships for all three of these athletes. It is a reward for their season, their hard work, determination and abililty to get it done."
Yalartai will compete in the triple jump. The 11th seed in the event, her competition will begin at 11:45 p.m. (central time) on Saturday, May 23. Yalartai was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) second place finisher in the triple jump last weekend with a leap of 40-06.00, improving her qualifying mark. She also gained points for the Huskies with a fifth place finish in the long jump. In March she qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in both the triple jump and long jump. She was named a  2015 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Central Region honoree. The top five individuals in each event from each region earn the All-Region distinction.
Johnson was also honored as a  USTFCCCA All-Central Region athlete. He will compete in the hammer throw on the first day of the championships, Thursday, May 21 at 2:30 p.m. Last weekend he helped the Huskies to a fifth place finish at the NSIC Championships. Johnson placed fifth in the discus, sixth in the hammer throw and seventh in the shot put. His NCAA qualifying mark was 192'2". This marks Johnson's second NCAA appearance as he qualified for the 2013-14 indoor championships in the weight throw.
Saez is the reigning NSIC discus champion as he won the 2015 title last weekend with a toss of 171-00. He also had a ninth place finish in the shot put at the NSIC Championships. Saez will compete at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22. His winning throw at the NSIC Championships improved his qualifying mark for the NCAA meet.Â
