Team Red collects victory at Black/Red Classic on Nov. 3

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team kicked off its 2016-17 season with its annual Black/Red Classic intrasquad match on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Halenbeck Hall.  The match serves a part of preseason training for the Huskies and it provides important match competition for the Huskies wrestlers.  The evening was capped by the unveiling of the 2016 NCAA Division II national championship banner, which will hang next to the Huskies' 2015 NCAA banner in Halenbeck Hall.
In the intrasquad match, Team Red gained a 23-15 victory over Team Black. Â The complete results of the match are listed below. Â
Once the competition was completed, SCSUÂ recognized four-time All-American Clint Poster and 2016 NCAA national champ Brett Velasquez (125 pounds) before the Huskies unveiled their 2016 NCAA team championship banner. Â
The Huskies will officially open competition on Nov. 13 with a trip to the Harold Nichols Open in Ames, Iowa.  Fans will want to mark Dec. 10 on their calendars as that day is the annual Holiday Inn/Husky Open in Halenbeck Hall.  The action begins at 9 a.m. that day in St. Cloud, Minn.
