Natalie Gottschalk Gets NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark In Pentathlon On First Day of the NSIC Indoor Championships

MANKATO, Minn. – Sophomore Natalie Gottschalk finished seventh overall in the pentathlon on the first day of the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, Feb. 14, from Myers Fieldhouse.
Gottschalk's 3390 points placed her seventh in the event among all the competitors and also was an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark.
Gottschalk highest finish on the afternoon was in the high jump where she finished third overall with a 1.59m. Her other finishes were 12th in the 60m (9.59), eighth in the shot put (10.03m), ninth in the long jump (5.25) and sixth in the 800m (2:28.18).
Freshman Peter Bates was the other SCSU indoor athlete in competition during the first day as he competed in the heptathlon. Bates is currently 15th in the event with his highest finish thus far being eighth in the long jump (6.25).
The NSIC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships will continue on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27 in Mankato, Minnesota. The men's heptathlon will finish up on Monday, Feb. 15 on the campus of Minnesota State. The team's next event as groups will be Feb. 19 when the men will compete at the Snowshoe Open on the campus of the University of Minnesota and on Feb 20 when the women are at Parents Day Open at Minnesota State.
