Freshman Elijah Pitchford Named NSIC Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State freshman Elijah Pitchford was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week by the league office on Tuesday, April 12.
Pitchford, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis., won the triple jump at the USF Open with a school-record leap of 15.15m/49'08.50". The mark also met NCAA provisional qualifying standards and is the eighth longest leap in the Division II this season. His jump broke the previous school record of Scott Weber that was set during the 1990 season. Pitchford also finished sixth in the long jump at the USF Open with a season-best jump of 6.70m/21'11.75".
This is the first time this season that Pitchford has been named the NSIC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Pitchford set the school and meet record at the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships in winning the triple jump (14.97m) and earning all-conference status. He was named the NSIC Male Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year this season.
Next, Pitchford and the rest of both the SCSU men's and women's outdoor track & field programs are at the Holst Invite hosted by Concordia-St. Paul on April 16.
