#1 St. Cloud State wrestling scores 38-3 victory over MSUM

St. Cloud, Minn. - The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (10-1, 2-0 NSIC) returned to NSICÂ action on Thursday, Jan. 19 with a big 38-3 victory over Minnesota State Moorhead (3-7, 0-3 NSIC) at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.
The victory was SCSU's 46th consecutive NSIC dual match win.  SCSU has won five consecutive NSIC championships and the Huskies have not lost a conference dual meet since Jan. 27, 2011 against Augustana.
The Huskies opened on a strong note with a quick pin at 1:27 by defending NCAA champ Brett Velasquez at 125-pounds. Â SCSU's lone loss came at 133-pounds at Mike Rhone lost a hard fought 3-2 decision against Moorhead's #3 ranked Blake Bosch.
SCSU retuned to the win column at 141-pounds with a 13-4 major decision win by #5 Matt Nelson and a 3-1 decision by James Pleski at 149-pounds.
In action at 157-pounds, SCSU's Brett Stolarzyk gained bonus points with a 15-5 major victory and Josh Berg posted a 5:19 tech fall (17-0) at 165-pounds for the Huskies.
The wins continued at 174-pounds thanks to a 6-1 decision by #5 Clayton Jennissen and #6 Uthman Rabiu added points with a 12-6 decision over Moorhead's Logan Rhode at 184-pounds.  To wrap up the win, SCSU's #3 Vince Dietz charted an 11-1 major decision at 197-pounds and SCSU's Mike Hobbs gained a 1:54 pin at 285-pounds against MSUM's Nader Abdullatif.
The Huskies will continue their homestand on Saturday, Jan. 21 with a 2 p.m. NSIC dual match against Northern State University. Â The match has been designated as Military and Veterans Appreciation Day and all active military and veterans will be admitted to the match for free.
