Softball Travels To Florida For 2017 Spring Break Trip

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – After playing the first 10 games of the season indoors at the Husky Dome, the St. Cloud State softball team (8-2) gets on the road, outdoors and out of state for the first time this week with a trip to The Spring Games at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. from March 7-13.

The Huskies have a total of 11 games over the course of the seven days in the Sunshine State. SCSU plays a pair of games daily, except on Friday (March 10) which is a designated off day and on Monday (March 13) which is a single contest, starting with a 2:30 p.m. game against Trevecca Nazarene University at Legends Way 2 on March 7. St. Cloud State then plays against Lewis University later that same day at 5 p.m. at Legends Way 1 at the National Training Center.

The Spring Games were founded in 2008 by Dr. Dot Richardson
The event is held annually at the Legends Way fields at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.

Opponent Notables

SCSU is 7-7 all-time against Lewis University since first meeting in 1995, 4-0 against University of Findlay since first meeting in 2005, 1-0 against Saint Joseph's College with only meeting being in 1996, 2-4 against Northwood University (MI) since first meeting in 2010, 0-2 against California University of Pennsylvania since first meeting in 2003 and 0-2 against Slippery Rock University since first meeting in 2011.
The games against Trevecca Nazarene University, Felician University, Assumption College, Philadelphia University and Fairmont State are first-time meetings for the program.
The Trevecca Nazarene Trojans are 7-6 on the season and played their first home games on the campaign on Thursday getting 7-6 and 11-2 victories over Cumberland.
The Trojans have won the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in each of the last four seasons and are predicted to win the league again this season.
The program has a team batting average of .324 with nine home runs, 56 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in the first 13 games of 2017.
Ashton Stowe leads the team with her .435 batting average.
MaKray Odom is hitting .432 with 19 hits with six RBIs and stolen bases.
Mary Collins has walked 12 times with 11 hits for an on-base percentage of .600.
Kat Burbrink leads the lead with her 13 RBIs.
Alex Richardson has already hit four home runs along with 11 RBIs in the first 13 games.
Eight different players in the lineup have reached double figures in hits in 2017.
Savannah Carr is 2-0 with a 3.95 ERA.
Morgan Powell has thrown a team-high 23.2 innings with 22 strikeouts.
The Lewis University Flyers (4-3) are venturing away from the state of Illinois for the first time this season with the trip to Florida.
Carolyn Nojiri has been the team's top hitter with a .381 batting average, eight hits, three triples and seven RBIs.
Carly Jaworski has eight hits, four doubles and eight RBIs.
Dara Sanders is 2-0 with a 0.49 ERA in 14.1 innings thrown.

Nicole Spiegelberg was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Co-Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 21 after hitting .462 with six hits, two runs and four RBIs in her first week of action.
She is hitting .500 with 12 hits, two doubles, three home runs, nine RBIs and four walks.
Ashley Owens has been the top pitcher with a 2.93 ERA, 3-2 record, three complete games, two shutouts in 28.2 innings thrown.

The program went 19-21 last season and are predicted to finish fourth in the NE10 Northeast Division.
The team's top returning players are Ashley Abad and Ashley Clark.

The top returning player is Naomi Stas.
Stas had 37 hits, eight doubles, 11 runs and 10 RBIs as a hitter last season and six wins with a 3.00 ERA plus 60 strikeouts in 95.2 innings pitched.
The Fairmont State Fighting Falcons are 0-4 on the season after beginning the season in South Carolina at the Coker Softball Tournament.
The team has been led by Jenny Stubbs, who is hitting .333 with three hits.
Rachel Bias has a 2.57 ERA with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched.
Hannah Absalom has thrown 14.1 innings in her four appearances and three starts in the circle.
Slippery Rock University is off to a 1-4 start on the season after playing at the Myrtle Beach Softball Tournament a few weeks ago.
The program has been led by Caitlin Baxter who is hitting .357 with three RBIs and five hits.
Kailey Myers has a .385 batting average, five hits, and two walks.
Carly DeRose has been the top pitcher with her 1.40 ERA and nine strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.

St. Cloud State is being led offensively this season by senior Alyssa Coletto and freshman Maya Keating.
Coletto leads the team with her .458 batting average, four doubles, six walks and .667 on-base percentage.
She also has 11 hits plus a home run and five RBIs.
Keating is hitting .440 with 11 hits and six stolen bases.
Sophomore Morgan Emmans has 10 hits, two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Senior Rebecca Harps is hitting .423 with 11 hits, five RBIs and four walks.
Senior Abby Bunnell sports a .406 batting average to go along with nine runs, 13 hits and 13 stolen bases.
Bunnell has successfully tallied a hit in all 10 games this season.
Senior Jessica Goerger has driven in 13 runs on her 11 hits and has a team-high 19 total bases.
Senior Megan Hedstrom has four wins, a 1.91 ERA, two complete games plus 20 strikeouts in her 36.2 innings thrown.
Sophomore Kate Kopeck is 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA plus 20 strikeouts in 22.1 innings in the circle.
The Huskies have a team batting average of .332 with 79 hits, 14 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 44 RBIs and 107 total bases.

After returning from the Spring Games, SCSU heads off to the Hy-Vee Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri on the campus of Missouri Western State from March 17-19.
