St. Cloud State Soccer on the road to MSUM and NSU this weekend

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (3-3-3, 2-2-2 NSIC) will be on the road this weekend looking to pick up key conference points in matches at NSIC rivals Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State.
The Huskies start the weekend trip with a 4:00 p.m. date at Minnesota State Moorhead (3-3-3, 1-3-2 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 11. The game will be played at Nemzek Field in Moorhead, Minn. SCSU will finish the weekend trip with a 1:00 p.m. match at Northern State University (3-5-0, 1-4-0 NSIC) on Sunday, Oct. 13 in Aberdeen, S.D.

SCSU SOCCER NEWS AND NOTES:
- The Huskies head into the weekend at MSUM and NSU with a 3-3-3, 2-2-2 NSIC record, which provides SCSU with eight league point. Augustana and Bemidji State lead the league with 5-0-1 records and 16 points, while SCSU is tied for eighth place in the current standings with U-Mary and Upper Iowa.
- Last year, SCSU gained a 1-0 OT victory over Minnesota State Moorhead and the Huskies also posted a 2-0 win over NSU. Both games were played in St. Cloud, Minn. In the all-time series, SCSU has owned the upper hand against the Dragons with a 25-0-1 record since 1995. In action against Northern State, SCSU is 9-3-3 vs. the Wolves since 2002. The last time, SCSU played in Moorhead, the Huskies posted a 3-1 win on Sept. 25, 2016 and the last time SCSU played in Aberdeen, the Huskies scored a 2-1 win. Of note, the last time SCSU lost a match to Northern State was a 1-0 setback on Oct. 26, 2013.
- Last week, SCSU opened its NSIC weekend with a 1-1 OT decision at home against Wayne State on Oct. 4. Nicole Friis scored the Huskies' goal with an assist from Mia Giorgi at 80:55 to send the game into OT. SCSU outshot the Wildcats 14-6 in the game as Zoe Welsh had three saves for SCSU. On Oct. 6, SCSU and NSIC leader Augustana battled to a scoreless tie at the end of regulation before the Vikings gained the league points with the OT GWG at 97:59. SCSU dominated on the scoresheet as the Huskies outshot the Vikings 17-6 in the game. Augustana is currently ranked #7 in this week's NCAA DII Central Region poll.
- The goal for Friis vs. WSC was her second of the season and her third goal at SCSU.
- SCSU has currently played in five OT matches this season, which includes three ties, one OT win and one OT loss. Of note, SCSU played in seven OT games last year that included four ties and three OT wins.
- Zoe Welsh has only allowed eight goals in nine games played this season. She owns a 3-3-3 record along with a 0.80 GAA and 44 saves to her credit. The fewest number of goals allowed in a season by the Huskies was 17 in 2009.
- Claire Shea leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points this season.
- SCSU returns home on Oct. 18 for a 4 p.m. match against Upper Iowa and on Oct. 20 for a 1 p.m. match against Winona State.
