St. Cloud State soccer back home for games vs. Wayne State and Augustana

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (3-2-2, 2-1-1 NSIC) will be back on the pitch at Husky Stadium this weekend for a pair of key NSIC matches against rival Wayne State College and Augustana University. The weekend opens with a 4:00 p.m. home date against Wayne State (2-3-2, 2-2-0 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 4. SCSU will then wrap up the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a 1:00 p.m. home date against Augustana (5-1-1, 3-0-1 NSIC) at Husky Stadium.
The Huskies are fresh from a big 2-1 2OT victory at nationally ranked Minnesota State on Sunday, Sept. 29. The game was highlight by the OT game winner by Clarie Shea, who also had the game's first goal for SCSU. For her efforts in the win over MSU, Shea was selected as the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.

SCSU SOCCER NEWS AND NOTES:
- Claire Shea took over the team's point scoring lead with her two goal performance in the Huskies' 2-1 victory at Mankato. Shea now has three goals, two assists and eight points in 2019.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Welsh continues to be a force in the nets for SCSU. She has allowed only six goals in seven games played this season and owns a 3-2-2 record. Her goals against average is 0.78 this season in 690:00 minutes of play. In case you were wondering, Elizabeth Kelly currently owns the SCSU season record for best GAA at 0.83 in 2009 (1000 min. minimum). In her career, Welsh is 11-8-6 in the nets with a 0.97 career GAA. Kenzie Hanzlik currently owns the team's GAA record at 1.16 (2000 min. minimum).
- SCSU opened last weekend with a tough 1-0 loss at Concordia-St. Paul.
- In the last four meetings against Minnesota State, SCSU now owns a 2-1-1 record. Last year, SCSU posted a 1-1 tie vs. the Mavericks. Of note, MSU is currently the top ranked team in the latest DII Central Region poll and also ranked 4th nationally (down from second before the SCSU loss).
- Rookie Jenna Dominguez earned her first collegiate point with an assist on Shea's first goal vs. MSU on Sept. 29. She prepped at Geneva High School in Geneva, Ill.
- Tatyana Gusakow ranks second on the team this season with two goals and four points.
- Monica Majeski posted her first point of the 2019 season with the assist on Shea's GWG vs. Mankato. She now has four career assists for the Huskies.
- In 2018, SCSU gained a 2-1 OT win at Wayne State and lost a 1-0 match at Augustana. The Huskies currently own a two game winning streak against Wayne State and SCSU is 0-2-2 in the last four outings against Augustana. The last time SCSU played Wayne State at Husky Stadium, the Huskies lost 3-1 in 2016, and the last time SCSU played Augustana at Husky Stadium the Huskies tied 1-1 in 2016.
- SCSU is 10-7-6 in the all-time series vs. Augustana, which started in 2000. In play against Wayne State, SCSU is 10-2-0 and that series started in 2007. Augustana is ranked #7 in this week's NCAA DII Central Region poll.
- The game on Oct. 6 has been designated as Youth Day and all youth in grades 12 and under will be admitted FREE to the match with a paid adult.
- Tickets for both matches this weekend are available at the gate and all SCSU students get in FREE to all regular season home games in 2019.
