Huskies to host Michigan Tech in St. Cloud
The St. Cloud State University soccer team will open its 2019 season on Friday, Sept. 6 with a 4 p.m. match against non-conference rival Michigan Tech University at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
SCSU's opening weekend will then wrap-up with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Husky Stadium against Northern Michigan University. Tickets for both matches are available at the gate on game day and all SCSU students with a valid SCSU student ID card will be admitted FREE to these games.

SCSU posted an 8-7-4 record in 2018, which included an 8-4-3 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Huskies qualified for the 2018 NSIC postseason tournament and lost in first round play at Minot State. SCSU was 5-1-2 in games played at home during the 2018 season.
Last year, SCSU opened its 2018 campaign with a 2-1 loss at Northern Michigan and followed that with a 2-2 tie at Michigan Tech. In the all-time series, SCSU is 6-4-0 against Northern Michigan and 1-3-1 in play against Michigan Tech.
SCSU will bring feature eight seniors, seven juniors and two sophomores on its roster in 2019. The Huskies' roster will also include nine freshman. Check out the 2019 SCSU roster.
Hannah Marion
The Huskies will return three All-Conference players to their roster in 2019. Senior forward Hannah Marion earned All-NSIC Second Team notice in 2018 and senior defender Emma Van Donselaar was an All-NSIC Honorable Mention award winner in 2018. Senior defender Mia Giorgi, who redshirted at SCSU in 2018, is back after claiming All-NSIC Honorable Mention status in 2017.
Marion is SCSU's top returning scorer with 14 points and seven goals to her credit in 2018. In her career, Marion has notched 15 goals and 30 points, which ranks her 14th in the team's all-time scoring charts. Chris Fleischer owns the team record for career points with 113 from 1995-99.
Sophomore Claire Shea scored two goals and one assist last season, while junior Nicole Fris had one goal and two assists in 2018. Senior Brooke Bares led SCSU with three assists in 2018.
On defense, SCSU only allowed 22 goals in 18 games in 2018.
In the nets, Zoe Welsh is back after leading the SCSU goalkeepers corps with six shutouts, 72 saves, a 1.05 GAA and an 8-6-4 record. Redshirt freshman Cassidy Lehrke and freshman Evie Kohn will also provide key depth in the nets for SCSU this fall.
Welsh's six shutouts rank fourth in the SCSU records for most shutouts in a season. Kenzie Hanzlik set the team record with nine shutouts in 2011. Welsh's 1.05 GAA also ranks third in the team records for best GAA in a season. Elizabeth Kelly currently owns the team's GAA for a season at 0.83 in 2009.
The Huskies will open the 2019 season with five consecutive home matches. On Sept. 14, the homestand continues with an 11:00 a.m. home match against Bridgeport. On Sept. 20, SCSU will open the NSIC season at home against Bemidji State and then host Minnesota Crookston on Sept. 22. SCSU's first road trip will take place on Sept. 27 at Concordia-St. Paul.
