St. Cloud State soccer opens season with 0-0 2OT decision against MTU

In a non-conference battle between the Huskies, St. Cloud State University opened its 2019 season with a 0-0 2OT final against the Michigan Tech Huskies on Friday, Sept. 6 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
SCSU (0-0-1) will complete its season opening weekend on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a 1:00 p.m. home match against Northern Michigan University. The game will be played at scenic Husky Stadium and tickets for this match are available for purchase at the gate. SCSU students can get in free to the game by showing their valid SCSU student ID card at the gate.
In a classic defensive battle, sophomore netminder Zoe Welsh was perfect in goal with four saves to her credit for the Huskies. This was Welsh's seventh career shutout as a Husky. In the contest, MTU outshot SCSU by an 11-10 margin. Claire Shea led SCSU with five shots in the game and Monica Majeski added two.
Of note, SCSU had four shots on target in the second half, while Welsh came up with a big save in the first OT session to preserve the tie game for SCSU.
On the topic of shutouts, Welsh now ranks sixth in the team records for most career shutouts at SCSU. Listed below are the Huskies' top career shutout leaders in net.
