Kinny, Munoz Perez and Fitzpatrick win singles matches for the Huskies
FAYETTE, Iowa – St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (5-8, 3-4 NSIC) dropped its second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match in a row on Saturday, falling 4-3 to Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa. After dropping the doubles point, the Huskies attempted a comeback in singles play, winning three matches before ultimately fall, 4-3.
DOUBLES
The Huskies dropped the doubles point after falling in each match. At the No. 3 position, freshman Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) and senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) fell 6-3 to Padmasree Murugan and Elaina Wall.
SINGLES
In singles play, the Huskies received wins in straight sets from junior Shanna Kinny (Litchfield, Minn.), freshman Claudia Munoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) and senior Samantha Fitzpatrick (Rogers, Minn.) at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions, respectively. Kinny and Munoz Perez each won for the second consecutive matches after winning at Winona State on Friday. Kinny beat Lina Ziani, 6-2, 6-4, while Munoz Perez beat Padmasree Murugan, 6-3, 6-2 and Fitzpatrick beat Elaina Wall, 6-0, 6-0.
UP NEXT
Next, the Huskies will return home for a pair of matches next weekend, hosting Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, March 26 and College of Saint Benedict on Sunday, March 27. Both matches are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. CT at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center.
