Huskies defeat UWP 2-1, shutout BSU 13-0
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State softball team (14-10, 0-0 NSIC) swept their matchups at the Husky Dome Saturday afternoon. The Huskies came away victorious 2-1 against UW-Parkside while a dominant first inning played a hand in SCSU's 13-0 shutout against Bemidji State.
GAME ONE: ST. CLOUD STATE (2) VS UW-PARKSIDE (1)
It was a pitching duel between the two teams as a total of just three runs was scored in the game. Parkside would strike first with a run in the second off a homerun while the Huskies added one in the fourth and fifth for the 2-1 victory. With the bases loaded, a hit by Jamie Odlum resulted in a fielder's choice at home plate. However, a overthrow to first base gave Jasmin Estrada the opportunity to score on the error, tying the game up at 1-1. In the bottom of the sixth, a sacrifice bunt by Josey Marquette set Odlum up in scoring position on third. Tenley Quesnell would then beat out a two out go-ahead RBI single to put the Huskies up 2-1 for the victory.
GAME TWO: ST. CLOUD STATE (13) VS BEMIDJI STATE (0)
A huge first inning by the Huskies would set the tone of the game as they scored 13 runs on 12 hits with five extra base hits. Raven Vanden Langenberg would get things rolling as she RBI singled to right field sending Sydney Trees home for the first score. Shortly following, Estrada blasted a three-run homer to left field to increase the lead to 4-0. Quesnell singled through the left side for two RBIs and a 6-0 lead. Back at the top of the lineup with the bases loaded and zero outs, Trees smashed a grand slam home run to increase the Huskies lead into double digits. The Huskies weren't done yet as Vanden Langenberg stepped to the plate and sent the Huskies third home run of the inning over the fence for the 12-0 lead. An RBI triple by Odlum put SCSU up 13-0. St. Cloud State's defense held strong to keep the Beavers at bay as the Huskies shutout Bemidji State 13-0.
